Hello,
I have been looking at tractors for starting up my farm. I will need to prepare 5-10 acres of apple orchard for turning into a truffle farm and then I will plant about 500 trees an acre on it. I was planning on tilling the whole thing so that harvesting the underground truffles would be easier. I would like to be able to use a 100" or so tiller because I plan on trying to add 5 acres a year of truffle farm. What size tractor would you recomend? I would really like a 4wd diesel because it will be used for snow removal. Also it will be used for small square baling too.

I think you first need to go find the tiller you want and then see what size tractor is recomended to power it. Here is a site with a 90" tiller and they say 40 to 70 HP tractor Rhino Tiller
Something in that HP range should do what you want, but I would lean more toward the higher end, just so you would not be working the tractor at its maximun limit all the time.

The Rhino tiller is MFG by Sicma. You might want to look at the CCM Gear Drive Tillers.

Thank you to those that replied. Will the tiller remove roots or will I have to do that with a seperate attachment?

No, the tiller won't remove the roots. Ok, I lie, it will but you will have to keep pulling them out of the teeth and they can tear a good tiller up right quick. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just insert a descriptive word or two between the {url=http://whatever}Enter words here{/url} instead of the entire URL. Replace parentheses with brackets in previous example.
