I'm making great progress on my prep work. I have started putting the topsoil back. But, with it in low range, and high rpms, I noticed that when I go in for a scoop, it will spin the tires as it goes in. But, as the bucket fills, they spin less, and then when it gets a heaping bucket where it will no longer move into the pile, the tires will not spin and the engine does not drop rpms much more than about 100.

So, I talked to the dealer. He says there have been a number of complaints reported to JD about lack of HST power and JD has been looking into the issue. It may be a design issue. He said they will call if something comes through, but to definitely get back to them before warranty runs out.

So, Chris, or any one else with a 2520, can you go into a deep pile, scoop from the bottom so you have a heaping bucket, try to move into the pile further and spin your tires?

Yes......;)

I can be in 4wd in low range with the bucket plowed right into a pile
of red clay. and when i cant go no more all 4 tires will spin.

Now i ant saying it ant grunting. it is. but it still spins. :)

Have you ever had your hydraulic presure checked.
dont the hydro run off of fluid presure? maybe yours is to low..:(

OK... So, after reading Chris's reply on throttle position, I went out and tried it again. This time, at high rpms and going into a heavy pile, full bucket, when it would go no further, I went ahead and "mashed" the pedal down. Indeed the rpms dropped substantially and I believe that if I went all the way down and held it, it would have stalled.

I guess my HST may be normal right now. I can get excellent traction at times which may be why sometimes they don't spin. I do have a couple hundred pounds of liquid in each rear tire...

I've been following this thread with interest. I do a fair amount of ground-engagement on my L5030HST. Typically this is pulling an arena drag in low speed. It takes about an hour and I do hear the HST whine over the engine but temps never rise. I'm assuming all is well, but the whine worries me. Should it?

Got the tractor back from its 50 hr service a couple of weeks ago and the whine is MUCH less - even when doing ground-engagement work the tranny is much much quieter.

Not sure what that means, but I'm happy!
