Help moving these steps

I like this idea, I think I will try this before the jackhammer.

Just make sure you don't start tipping the steps forward. If the bolt pulls or the cable snaps, etc... the steps will fall backward hitting your wall. You said the wall is damaged already. Don't want more.

I like this idea, I think I will try this before the jackhammer.

am skiddish upon the epoxy or even drilling and putting in some anchors and bolts to then toss chain on. sounds like accident just waiting to happen. and damage to home even further.

if you had a large backhoe were you could put backhoe bucket in between top step and home maybe. i say backhoe due to being able to adjust bucket and swing bucket left/right to keep a hold of step and bring it away from home. but trying to anchor it and then pull with a truck or tractor. i just do not see it happening. i can almost seeing someone backing up really close and then just peddle to metal and through the floor board and snapping chain/cables/ropes and causing injury to who ever driving and vehicle / tractor. and causing steps to lift up a little bit and then crash back into home.

not sure if i would trust an A frame setup for pulling tree stumps, and trying to lift and pulling steps away. i have done that before tree stumps. and if like my luck, if something could happen it will happen.

Thanks for all the ideas. Did some digging and it appears that there was no footing and it is not hollow. Maybe I'll call around for a jackhammer.

Can you dig under the first step and place a large pipe under it? Then drill holes through that step and conect a long grade 8 bolt through the holes to pull the steps away from the house? Just a thought. Be safe however you do this. And make sure you secure house walls if the worse happens. Jon

Well they weren't poured in place so something set them in there. Probably a skid steer with long forks.

How far under did you dig?

If you can pry up the back, you can see if it is all solid.

A 90 # electric jack hammer would be my choice to just demo them. After wall repair, you can put in some footers and pour some proper steps in place or maybe get some precast ones if the height is right.

Use jackhammer. I have removed similar steps that were solid concrete. Many times It s easier and cheaper to backfill with concrete than get different material and more forming for thinner concrete steps

I would not do anything until the wall was braced up . Is it a single course of brick , 2 , brick over block ? need a pic from the inside . You start banging on that with a hammer you may get a real surprise .
