Help! My Cub is only running so-so now!

Wayne - My '66 started doing the same thing. Rebuilt the carb and good as new. Probably a vacum leak between the top and bottom parts of the carb. Gasket may have dried out and cracked. Chuck

The distribuitor does have automatic spark advance, via centrifugal flyweights in the distribuitor.

If you have an I&T IH50 servic manual.. look up figure IH20.. it shows the exploded distribuitor diagram. the weights are #11 in my book. Paragraph 31 speaks of the automatic spark advance.

A quick look at the original cub and cub low boy manual I have shows the battery ignition unit as a 16 degree advance type.. but does not mention advance on the magneto units.

You have a good point. Prior to this, (after sitting) I could not get it started. I then noticed that gas was dumping out of the carb. (the air intake to the left) I took the carb apart thinking the float was not working and not shutting off the little valve to stop the gas flow into the chamber of the carb. Tested the float. ok. Put it all back together and the Cub started. Not really sure why the gas flow was not being shut off. (I mean, after I noticed I couldn't stop it. Until I shut off the flow by the fuel filter)

Maybe now that's it's all back together I should replace that gasket in carb.

I just recently had to replace the feul bowl/gas valve on my 66 cub as I noticed it leaked gas, and fille dup my crankcase...

Unfortunately, (yeah, right) my new B7610 has arrived. I prob won't have too much time to play with the ol' Cub now that the new toy is in town. (too much landscaping to do with the loader for the fall) Though I will try that gasket if I get a little free time.
