Help, my land needs to be HEALED !!!

I bought 8 acres 1 year ago. and found it had been logged, we have burned and moved many down trees that were left. but the land is still covered in downed trees, 100s of tree stumps and rocks every where.. We bought this place to retire on and have a few horses.. We didn't walk the land due to the thick weeds. I need it turned into pasture land..The problem is limited funds and ideas ????

Get the biggest front end loader you can and a rachet rake, put a heavy box blade (or brush piler/landscape rake) on the back.....then go to windrowing slash, burning, and smoothing.

My family is in the logging business so I clean up food plots and other places behind loggers all the time. Once you get the hang of it you'll be shocked at what you can do to half an acre with a box blade and rachet rake in just few hours



In these situations you can either hire it done fast, or do it yourself slow and cheap...... I have more time than money so I do it myself.

Limited funds,100s of tree stumps and rocks every where,are two phrased you you shouldn't use in the same sentence.

The least expensive way is to flip the land and buy another 8 acres that you walk first.

With 8 acres of downed trees, rocks and stumps, you pretty much have the trifecta of bad things when buying land. On the bright side you didn't buy a hazardous waste area.

Like others said, rent or buy the best equipment you can afford, and one of those needs to be a good size grapple.

I guess I see it in a more manageable and appealing light. All the downed trees and stumps are soil amendments over the long term.. Rocks can be used, grinded or picked. 8 acres is a big area but it's not overwhelming. It would help to know how big the trees are and see some pictures if the guy really wants some intelligent input.

Are you actually living on the property? Is their a dwelling on site?

yes I live on the land. there is a small trailer and a new water well. we have repaired some fence and we are able to keep the horses in..

8 acres is easy. chainsaw,old 50 horse tractor with disc , bushhog and scrapper box.disc around the property then burn it off.drag up the logs and burn them.take the saw and cut the stumps as low as possible.disc around the stumps and rocks then plant grass.bush hog it high.use hand sprayer with remedy to kill brush sprouting back.in a few years it will look good.

Do what you can with a grapple and winch and chainsaws. Plant grass on it and sell one acre as a home site. Then you can afford an excavator to finish the stumps and trees off.

I have about the same situation - 9 acres, four of which were clear cut about 9 years ago and I want to clean it up. I have about 1/2 acre cleaned up so far, no time nor money! But, I am still wanting to get 'er done. Most of my clearing is done by chain saw, axe, JD 2210 with rear blade, and fire when it is legal to burn the piles I create. I'd like to see some photos of your project...
