Some progress, and another delay:

I found a large (around 1 inch) drain plug and drained about 7 gallons (I am dumping it into 5 gallon oil buckets) total with zero remaining drips from that location. I found a 10mm recessed hex located center amidship; removed that and the plug was wet with hydro but zero flow.

Removed the HST filter (with a 2 foot cheater bar) and replaced with new HST Filter...maybe 1/2 cup of fluid from there.

Removed Hydro oil filter with a strap wrench...maybe 1/4 cup of oil. Cleaned the magnet and then went to insert it into the Filter 1 Wix Hydraulic Filter (Part Number:57098
UPC Number:765809570986) . NO GO.

The Wix filter has a raised inner lip that prevents seating of the magnet and consequent sealing of the filter. They have always been good parts matches in the past at Filter 1

I am in the process of contacting Filter 1.

I still have not located the other drains, and by my measurements, there should still be about 4 gallons left in the system. Any suggestions?

Just did the 50hr service on my L5030HSTC last week. There are two main drains in the center of the trans case, behind the odd "water drain" plug. One is a recessed hex plug, and the other is 1in hex nut. The other two drains are at the very bottom of the "brake" chambers on the rear axle. I forget the size, but they're at the very bottom, and each will drain a fair amount of oil.

Between all four, I got about 11 gal out. The spec is for almost 12, and I know I put more than that in, to get the level correct on the dipstick. I'm not sure how much is drained by the loader or 3-point, but I just kept adding and running until the level stabilized.

The front axle won't take all of the specified capacity [I used 80-90 SAE gear oil]. Be sure to drain each steering knuckle, level the axle [I had it elevated with the loader], and then fill 'til it runs out the "spill" port.

Everything else is a piece of cake, but if you have 4WD, make sure to grease the zerk on the backside of the front axle, along the front driveshaft -- it's not noted in the manual.

Thank you sir.

From your description, I guess I identified the two big ones...I now have to find the rear wheel ones you mentioned.

Kind of funny...I drained the front axle and it came out like a cow peeing on a flat rock. I had read the posts here about having trouble getting all the oil back in. I had zero problem there, as a matter of fact, I may have overfilled it /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

What I thought (ignorantly) were the inspection ports were something else with a double nut on it. So as I approached the halfway mark into my third gallon of 80-90, and nothing appearing from the bolt holes to nowhere, it reached the top of the fill port /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I figured that was enough.

To finish this job tomorrow, I have to drive 150 miles to buy a Kubota filter to replace the Wix one I saved 10 bucks on that does not fit /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Actually, the easiest way to get the high pressure filter without using an adjustable spanner is to use a punch and a hammer on the tangs. If you want to, Williams Tools has an adjustable spanner that fits.

I always use oem filters. The HP filter has no cross reference anyway.
