I wasn't aware I'd have to change the wheels as well. I thought all 3 kinds of tires would fit the same rims.

I guess I'll be trying the chains.

I think this is one of the wetter Springs in southern Indiana. Have you logged this valley in more typical years?

Long shot, but I sometimes forget to engage the rear differential lock when traction deteriorates.

My land is ALWAYS wet. There's little springs and seeps everywhere.

So I guess now the question is WHICH chains?
On one website they had a little graph for what type of chain was best for what and it seemed the V-bar was best for traction N in mud.

I have used duo-grip, v bar, 2 link, 4 link....If I ever buy new its going to be a real logger tire chain, they are built so much better.

I have used most all styles of chains for ice and snow there absolutely no doubt in my mind the the Euro style is the best choice, the TRYGG or Aqulines.
For mud and logging I would be tempted to go with the skidder style ring chain if they can be found in your size,
my second choice would be a 2 link spaced combo of double ring and twist link with the v bars.
I have used those on tractors many times years ago, rough riding but considerable traction increase in mud and snow.

I seem to recall in the original post that you use a trailer to haul with, can you load the front heavy to get more tongue weight to the tractor?

I don't use a trailer most of the time. When I'm cutting wood I do but I don't dare go down in the valley with it, I'd never get out.

So what is you goto place to get chains?

   / Help: New R1s or chains for R4s? #19
It has varied each time I get them, usually I find a dealer thru their ads or after contacting the manufacture.
For my last set of Aquline the internet found me the best price, for my last trygg a dealer in Northern Vermont had the best price.
