Bird I (think) I’ve totally disabled firewalls, zone alarm, everything (temporarily of course) to try to get this to see something, then I figure I’d have the culprit located.

OkeeDon.. I’ve unplugged, reset till blue in face, something is buggered on my pc as I’ve now narrowed it down (by virtue of other pc in office working fine for same locations)

Bczoom, yes owners manual (on cd), I have no idea what virus, I just saw it deleted when I was doing a whole system check.

MossRoad, I upped to an 8 port because all 4 on this one are full and we’re going to get a (networkable) laser printer and I need a port

Khd.. interesting. I’m not that knowledgeable about pinging, but I’ve done it.

Monday when I return to office, I’ll keep slugging at it.

The good/bad news is, Tuesday I’m heading to Vegas (darn) for a seminar (yuck). Leave Tuesday, return late Saturday. Then the next Wednesday, I’m driving up to Chicago and back.

So, if I don’t get it fixed “now”, it’s essentially going to wait 2 weeks. My biggest fear was that ALL the secure sites were blocked and my office would be really messed up in my absence.

First rule of troubleshooting...

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif Just kidding.

However, if it worked on the 4 port, then you swapped out for an 8 port and it stopped working, you should put the 4 port back in and see if it works again. If it works with the old one, I'd suspect the new router. If it doesn't work with the old one, I'd suspect something on the PC has changed.

Also, instead of changing out the router, you could just add a 10/100 switch. They are very inexpensive and come in many configurations from 4 to 24 ports and just about any number in between. Sometimes that is easier than re-configuring routers and such.

Well, where the heck where ya last week when I decided to do this foolhardy exercise? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Actually, it did cross my mind, but space in closet made the 8 port easier.

Came in today & could'nt get onto internet AT ALL, nada, zippo, zilch.

Long story short, I rebooted several times, rebooted router, rebooted modem.

I then went upstairs and THAT pc worked flawlessly...yes, even on internet /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Now I'm realizing something is buggered with my pc and I was getting ready to delete/reinstall all my network connections (tcp/ipx) and I had a faint acknowledgement in the back of my head that I'd reformat if I needed to... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

Sat down to start deleting/reinstalling network connections, then it hit me. I looked over, reached down, picked up the wire connecting pc to wall outlet and plugged it in /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Now before y'all think I was being that dumb last week when I had this issue, I only unplugged it at the END of friday so that I could run norton and leave for day (time disallowed me to stay with it). I pulled chord out of wall and put in across my desk so I'd see it today. I wanted it disconnected from internet since I'd turned all safety switches off.

Anyway, I plugged it in today and everything is working fine, secure sites and all.

Dunno if perhaps it was a virus it found friday or not.

All I know is it's now working, and as you suggested, I ain't fixing it /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Ahh! Yes. Well at least you got past the power problem.

Hey, another reason to go wireless... look at it that way!

If you are using the router for DHCP quite probably the plug/unplug caused a refresh/renew and the new router gave you one of its IP's

Glad its working now......
