Gerard, don't forget to check to make sure that PTO shaft isn't too long and can be jammed together and against the tractor PTO when the PHD is lowered into the ground. That can do serious damage.

I agree with Bird. Take the auger off and let your 3PH all the way down. Make sure you still have some play in the shaft.
Common problem on smaller tractors.
If it is let us know, we will guide you to the right place to adjust the length.

WOW! I didn't realize that. I'll double check what you and Bird have stated. I'll let you know. Thanks.

Best to do, is putting the implement in lowest position, slide out the ends of the pto shaft, and put the couplers on both plined shaft ends. When you hold them next to each other, you can see how much play it has when the shafts are slid into each other.

Once i bent a 100 Euro PTO shaft with endpiece, when i took a aharp corner with a too long PTO shaft... the endpiece moved eccentrical in turning circle of about an inch... It made my drum mower shake over the field, and with a manure tanker, the wheel bolts of a front wheel ran loose because of these vibrations... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Hi guys. I did as "quoted" and I didn't find any problems. I dug a practice hole about 1/2 to 2/3 of the shaft and it seems to work great. Smooth as glass. Hopefully at full depth it will be the same. I'll let you know. Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Great Thread, I am first time tractor owner with only just over a year and still no PTO implements. But they are coming soon and I am weary of the danger of all that spinning material. I have wondered about how to set proper drive shaft length and now not only have I read it, I have a diagram thanks to Don
