Hit me twice in as many days,

The other day my wife says the brake light on our Grand Cherokee is on so I told her wiggle the E brake lever (quirk) she says that doesn't make it go off.
I pop the hood and find a squirrel nest tucked in against the firewall next to master cylinder. 18 inch long sticks and branches! couldn't believe it as this car is driven everyday. It chewed thru 4 wires and 2 winshield washer hoses!

Chewed the brake reservoir sensor wires right to the plug, you can't even buy that at dealer. Had to use owed favors at the junkyard to even get them to look for such a part.

Anyway since it never happened before (had plenty of mouse nests) I was kinda joking about it and even though it took 4 hours of my time I accepted it. This morning my wife says the cat is checking out the Jeep, I told her oh he probably just smells something from yesterday, but just to be sure I checked under the hood.

Now I almost blew up, no nest but even more more wires chewed and broken, right down to the harness!!

Never imagined it could happen twice in 2 days, I've read about moth balls? I've set a have a heart trap. I've got a million squirrels in my yard and we have all lived together in peace. But now it's WAR!!

We have always had a live and let live policy of wildlife up close to the house ........... until they cross the line into destructive behavior.

Time to go Rambo on them.

Can't blame ya, those little buggers just don't know when to quit. Once they have 'marked' their territory they are hard to get out. My sister had one in her rather expensive car. A small fortune in repairs and some Clorox to deter the little @#%$@#@ it finally decided to find a new home.

They are definitely no different that any other rodent.

I find a 22 works well for pest control, and its always good fun.:laughing:

Only way to get rid of them is to kill them, or, catch and release. I've learned that the hardway. If you find out how they get in and block it, they will chew another hole to get in.

I was just looking out the window and the dang thing walked around the trap 3 times but would not go in even with peanut butter in there.

Then I see one with a mouthful of bedding up on the tire of our van

I think it most be the same one as this has never happened before, maybe a young female looking for a nest. Like I said I have to many squirrels to count, plenty of trees but maybe they are overpopulated here in my yard.

I'll do what I can to help cull the herd ;)

Do moth balls really work?

Wow. Never had a squirrel do anything like that, though they used to get into the attic of my last house by chewing right through the light aluminum soffit vents. Mice have been my problem in both my tractor and a riding mower. I figure I would have gotten at least another year from my old riding mower if the mice hadn't chewed through about every wire in it.

Even though I believe I have moved into "their house", I use the 12 gauge remedy works every time it needs to.

JB430,

For what that squirrel has cost you, you may want to send it to the taxidermist, clearly that one has escaped the "nut" house.:D

Do yourself a favor and search "NPR" and "Squirrel Cop": listen to the tale of a rookie cop who tries to help a young couple remove a squirrel from their house. It is one of the funniest true stories I've ever heard.

might try some fresh electric wires in that trap..:D.. Them squirrels are the worst- over mice and coons... Yes- the only way to stop it is get rid of them.. Shot or trap? but you have to get rid of them.. Tuff doing that I know- spent several weeks doing the same thing a few years ago at Dad's place. Finally on a COLD night took a heat blanket and wrapped the trap in it and bang caught them the same night...
