Today two of my four anti-scalp wheel zerks pulled completely out when I removed the grease gun. I felt slightly less foolish after a quick TBN search showed this to be a common problem. I fussed with them and they sort of went back in, but they still look like they'll pull out again at the next service.

Any tips on how to permanently repair these litle things?

I take it they are press in style. If you can I would suggest threading the holes and installing screw in style grease fittings.

I second DieselPower's recommendation to replace them with thread-in zerks.

I just did one myself a couple of days ago. It requires that you drill out the hole (i don't recall the bit size used) and then thread it with a 1/4" X 28 tap. Not hard at all and it makes a permanent zerk (unless you hit something and break it off!).

Good luck,
Dave

The same thing happens to me. The actual Zerk fittings are threaded type but I think the wheel openings are either not threaded or the plastic is too soft to hold the threads. After removing the fitting from the en of the grease gun I push them back into the opening. So far, 150 hours, they have remained there until the next time I grease them.

What size deck is it ?

Where do you have anti-scalp wheel zerks ?

I have a BX22 with a 60" deck and there are no zerks on the wheels. Just plastic wheels on a steel pin.

The new decks now have grease zerks on the anti-scalp wheels. I finally bought a deck for my BX and they have zerks.

I have an older deck without grease fittings and at one point one of the anti-scalp wheel melted around the bolt. What a mess to get the bolt out and get a new wheel. Since I did not know the new wheels came with grease fittings I drilled a hole down the center of the bolt and a hole through the bolt to let the grease out of hole in the bolt. I thenthreaded a zerk fitting in the hex head end. They work great and I never have to worry about pulling them out of the platic.

Just a thougt

Wow, nice solution! I guess for now I'll just keep pushing them back in like Tommy V suggests. Then, since I don't have a machine shop, maybe send my old ones this winter for the wheel upgrade that Larry sells. Looks very similar to what you did on your own.

I had Larry do my wheels. They are great! I am going to send in the ones off my ZD326 at the end of the season to have him do them as well.
