Help! I need to build a tooth bar. What is the best way to attach it to a FEL? I have a 40" bucket on mine. Do you have pictures? I need to move piles of hog fuel which requires a fairly long tooth. I'm thinking about 5 teeth, about a foot long. I might use some old axle shafts for the teeth. I prefer to make one rather than shell out the $$. (Working in a fab shop that is.) What is your experience?

Thanks.

atk_man,
My experience is I bought one a month or two ago from Carver's in NC. It's great! But back to your real question, here's a place to see some drawings of a toothbar: http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=jdown&Number=40697&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5 which shows the ears that form up on the inside of the bucket and are bolted to the ends with 3/4" bolts, nuts and washers. You may be able to see the notch in each tooth that slides over the bucket cutting edge and really holds it in place. The bolts mostly hold the toothbar in place, and just about all the grief is on those notches.

With foot long teeth, be very careful about where you aim that thing. /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I have seen on TBN where a couple owners have skewered the sides of their barns, and I think one got his pickup with the toothbar. So far, so good, here.

atk_man,

Check out www.carverequipment.com and look at their links to toothbars. They have diagrams, pictures and specs. These guys bolt them on to the sides of the bucket. They're manufactured to slide right over the wear blade or cutting edge of the FEL, then both ends are bolted to the bucket sides.

I tried it too.
We kinda help get the toothbar thing started a few years ago.
Motivated a desire for easy profits... after two or three tries at making them, we determined that the Long mfg.'d product was stronger and better, and had cost us less than the one we had cobbled up.

Just for fun and to see what you think.... I'll be happy to ship one to you to use as a pattern.

I'll will be surprised after home-making one, and buying the teeth and shanks and steel and welding supplies and paint ... if you don't become one of our best references.

How about that ?
Just send me a note at wildtrky25@aol.com(Steve)

Best wishes,
Steve

Steve -

As a customer who bought both a tractor and toothbar from you and is delighted with both, I wonder if you could persuade Long to manufacture tree getters (discussion thread <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=projects&Number=40600&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post40600/>here</A>).

I'd buy one in a heartbeat, and I bet a lot of other TBN'ers would too.

I would also be interested in a tree-getter attachment if you could come up with one
