JD2305
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a JD2305 and there are some days when I just can't seem to back up the tractor correctly in order to attach an implement. Sometimes , when backing up to mount my backhoe, I can do it first try, but there are those times when, @#$%%^&*! Then this winter, while using the FEL to scrape snow backwards from my parking pad, I came veeeerrrrrrryyy close to backing into my truck!

So, that made me think "OK, time for a backup camera system". But, I'm finding out that it's no simple choice. There's wired, wireless, monitors with stabilizing features & without this feature, small 3.5" monitors & bigger 7" monitors, cameras & monitors being sold as a package, or individually. Prices vary anywhere from $200 to $1200 dollars.

Well, I'm confused. Will any camera work with any monitor, or do they have to be matched? For me, I think I would like wireless, the larger monitor with stability, and a camera that works in bright sunlight as well as at night; and, of course, if possible, inexpensive.

Any thoughts, suggestions, or experiences appreciated.

What i have seen that is rather inexpensive around here, is the peak back-up camera kit sold at canadian tire 149.95$cnd. It's wireless and has a 110 degree angle, a 3.5" monitor. I have no experience with it, but a friend of mine who has plowing contracts has 2 in his tractor to give him a good view when snowblow backwards. So far so good, i'm waiting to see if it'll fall in special anytime soon, will have install one in both my tractors. Hope this helps:D

I've thought about mounting one on the front of my hood so I can see my bucket and grapple.

a 3.5" monitor.

I have one of these and maybe it is just my old eyes but the 3.5 inch monitor is next to useless IMO.

I would go fo rthe largest monitor I could find if I were doing it again.

I find I still have to turn around to actually SEE where I am backing - that may be just an old, hard-to-break habit. I think my mirrors are more effective if I take the few seconds to make sure they are positioned properly.

My $0.02

The Peak wireless system can be bought at most auto parts store for $130 or less depending on the monitor size. I bought one for my truck and it saves time backing up to a trailer. The one I bought has different monitor settings for brightness / contrast which you would need to be able to change if the tractor does not have a canopy to shade it. Just hook it up on a toggle switch so you can turn it off when not needed.
Or, if you have a GPS unit, the more expensive ones have a port to plug in a back up camera. Monitor size does determine price so go with what you can afford. I don't have a problem with my small monitor that is within 2' of me for backing up. Larger is better but I didn't see the need.

I have a Peak with 7" monitor in my motorhome and love it. Look on Ebay.

I was contemplating adding a camera also, but wondered about the monitor being water resistant enough to use in an open cockpit environment. Does anyone know how water resistance the monitors are from Peak? 2) Are the monitors visible in bright sunlight? 3) Can the monitor be removed easily ( ie: wires use connectors versus hard wired)?

I have a canopy on my tractor, but it offers little protection when snow blowing. My thoughts were to have the camera movable to aid in connecting attachments (front and back) and to aid visibility directly in front of the FEL bucket or snow blower. The monitor could be mounted on a flexible shaft from the canopy, so it could be positioned as needed or out of the way for storage.

On the wireless units, I assume this means the communication between the camera and monitor is wireless. If so, how is the camera powered? Battery or hard wired?

You can try this CabCAM Wireless Video System, that can solve your needs without any hard wires and occupies less space. It is costly but at your price.

Just a little bump here, the see what the latest and greatest is with with respect to these backup cameras. Who has gotten one recently that is good for snowblowing in reverse?

check, i bought a rear view saftey camera system for snow blowing in reverse. It came with the heated lens that does not melt the snow that lands on the camera. In my opinion i thinks heated mirrors are a better investment.
