Hello,

A few years ago I inherited my dad's Amco J43-2024 Offset disc. He had purchased it to clear 150 acres for a tree farm 15 years ago, and it has been sitting since.

The specs say that it needs a tractor with engine HP of 115 and drawbar HP of 85 minimum. My tractor is a 9030E 4x4 with 116/71.5 HP due to the hydrostatic transmission.

My questions:

Can I use this disc and just take extra passes or would that hurt the transmission?

Could I remove four blades off one side to essentially reduce the size? 71.5 = 84% of 85 HP. This would suggest I could run 16.82 (16) discs

Do you have any other suggestions that would make more sense? Obviously selling it and purchasing a smaller one is something to consider.

Thanks much,

Erik

I pull an offset disc that is right at 9' with 24" disc blades with a John Deere 5093E 4x4, first pass no problem second pass if needed I have to lighten up on it a little bit , in other words I can't float the tires. If I were you I would try it and see how it does, lock your tractor in 4WD and remember to keep turning left. Charlie.

Hook it up and pull it. when you get to that size of implements the recommendations get fuzzy. Soil conditions are the biggest single factor. Do you have weights or loaded tires?

Lineman - Good to hear, that makes sense. Amco claims that you get about 25% of the disk diameter from their disks. For this one is is 24" disks, would you expect to get a little less than that?

RedNeckRacin - I don't have any extra weight or loaded tires. The tractor has a loader on the front, a front PTO and a few other options that bring the weight up to around 13,500. Tracton is definately a concern because the tires are closer to the end of their life than the start. Soil is also a concern. I think the field is in pretty good shape, but it does hold water in the winter, I think there is a good amount of clay.

I definately will be giving it a try. Now I just need to figure out how to make the 2 hour trip with it! Hoping to buy a nice trailer here in the next few days.

Thanks again for the help,

Erik
