here's a little backgroud on by dilema (taken from the NH boards):

i found this nice NH TC30 with NH loader for $16,500. there is a dealer on ebay that sells these for $13,700 with a great bend loader. so i decide to try and dicker a bit. my offer was, thow in a 5' used king cutter rotory blade mower and use the 48 month 3.9 interest plan. his answer was nada so the deal was off.

i then went to a MF dealer and saw a used Deutz Allis 5220 28hp with 243 hours with loader. when i called earlier in the week, he wanted around $8,500 (i didn't mention my name). today, he told me the price was $7,995. the tractor looked fairly clean and the prior owner marked on the filters when they were changed and the hours. so i putz around on the tractor and move some dirt. it appears it will suit my needs, so i offer him $7,250, he then counters with $7,700. along with that, he says if i'm not happy with the tractor, i can get my $$ back or apply it toward a different tractor.

well, i take it to the land and start some box scrapping with my 5.5' box and moving dirt with the loader. just my dang luck, i noticed a leak in a quick connect for the hydraulic hose. i snap the coupler off/on and it is still leaking. not thinking it is losing that much fluid, i continue to move dirt. now the hydraulics are making noise when the 3pt and FEL are being used. it got so bad, i could barely get the bucket up to dump some dirt. i then commense to look for a hydraulic fill level dipstick/fill hole, but couldn't find it (does anyone know were these are located?).

oh well, back to the dealer it goes and i guess i'll have to buy a NEW tractor. since the dealer gave me the option to return the tractor for $$ back or full value trade-in, i'll be going with a MF.

now my choices are the 1431 or 1433V. what are your recommendations an why? he gave me a price of $16,000 on the 1431, how much more do you think the 1433V will be?

Morning evisr8.
I would consider it a learning experience...got dealer willing to work w/you,also trying out different model w/good and bad.

"what are your recommendations an why?"
I would have the tractor come to me as they say...comfortable use of all controls etc.

Good luck in your quest.

Sounds like you may have a QD not fully or properly installed. Restricting oil flow. May also need install of new orings or coupler.
This should be an easy repair if you want to keep tractor.

i figured it would be an easy repair, but then again, what happens if something major breaks down and i need to find a part? it might be kind of difficult with the Deutz. i've been through the break down and repair aspect with my 8N, but parts are readily available for the 8N. i need a reliable tractor for the 40 acres we just purchased. i'd rather keep the Deutz (paid cash for it). if i get a new tractor, my "allowance" will be spent on payments :( but, my intuition/gut feeling is telling me to get a new, US tractor.

I bought a used 1433v in January with 140 hours, it is an '04 model, warranty was good until July and it was $9800. I know that tractor prices can vary according to where you live, but $16k for a 1431 seems a little steep to me. Of course January is not a big sales month for tractors and the dealer may have sold it for less than if it had been spring/summer. I am very happy with my 1433v and would suggest you test drive it. Let us know how things go and if you have questions.

initially, i was going to put $6,00-7,000 down and use MF's low interest program. if i'm not mistaken, the dealer must kick back some $$ to the financial institution. maybe that's why they don't dicker much. if i dig deep, i can probably pay cash for the tractor. he also has a 1533 with 14 hours. what should i offer for the 1533 or the 1431?

I paid 18,200 for a new '06 1533 end of June. I know it's higher than prices posted in some other states, but about best I could do within 100 miles of here. All prices were within $300 and didn't justify going out-of-town to me. Another guy I know bought an '05 new last November and paid 17,000 I believe he said. I don't know if difference was year model of if they felt guilty about sticking it to a preacher and gave him a better deal. Both tractors came w/FEL.

i just got back from the MF dealer. he showed me a 1540 with 1525 FEL. The MSRP is $25,000, but he quoted me $20,500. decisions, decisions...
