Unless it's California diesel, in which case it would mortally offended by the insensitivity and racism of not having it's own special can.

Man what a hot topic! I suppose the 275 gallon horizontal heating oil tank I brought home from the dump (Whoops! Transfer Station /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif)is overkill? It' painted silver, has Diesel nicely hand painted in red on the end, and wonder of wonders, doesn't seem to leak. Even got my friendly Tranfer Station Attnedant/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif/w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif to load it on the trailer with the Town Skid Steer.

Now all I need is a tractor (diesel I hope) and to find out if fuel lasts 10 years with additive /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif.

Might've gotten a little too excited when I saw that sitting there.............

Harv,

Do you filter your diesel? I have heard that this is something that should be done. Does anyone know if this is true, necessary, or just a waste of time that could be spent playing?

Bill,

I think it depends on where you live... In NY I've tried Wal-Mart, K-Mart, the new Tractor Supply in Amsterdam (Central NY), and auto parts stores including NAPA with no luck! Reading other posts here these same stores have them... go figure!
Then one day I stopped by the second AGWAY store and there they were!
You just have to keep looking they are out there someplace.

Actually, TD, until reading this and some other recent threads here on TBN, I hadn't even thought about it,

but I am now.

I think the spout on my diesel can has a wimpy plastic screen thingie built in, but now I'm thinking about how I can add some real filtering to the deal. Maybe a nylon stocking arrangement, carefully secured over the filler tube.

Hi Harv;

The nylon stocking arrangement doesn't work very well. The nylon reacts with the deisel fuel and starts to resemble something made from "Silly-Putty" after awhile.

Yikes, Russ!!! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

Thanks for the heads up. Guess I'd better use my wife's good strainer instead.

We filter our bulk diesel that sits in our on-the-job storage tanks. Napa sells a simple screw on filter assembly. Works decent at grabbing moisture, etc.
