Help!!!! Yanmar 1601D Injection pump not pumping from one cylinder!

Something very fine that won't scratch. Crocus cloth, dish scouring pad, etc. Carburetor cleaner.

Beware the carburetor cleaner.

I sprayed some on an oil stain on the barn floor at the end of the day. Very slight smell, I didn't think anything about it. Middle of the night I went down the hall to the bathroom and couldn't keep my balance! Next day extreme fatigue, I never started the projects I intended to do.

That was nasty stuff.


I just went out and looked at the label:
Pennzoil / Gumout - Carb and Choke Cleaner

I won't use it again for anything.

never had any issues using carb. cleaner. Been using it many yrs. Just like any other chemical, carb. cleaner, brake cleaner, start fluid, etc,. Make sure you use it in a well ventilated area

Carb cleaner is nasty stuff and therefore awsome!! Never had that issue and i use cans of the stuff and een around vats of it.

It does hurt like heck getting it in your eye when it bounces back and you dont have glasses on. I usually turn my head now when spraying out an orface or something like that.

For this you really need to submerge it in the vat.

Use whatever you find necessary. Depends on why it is stuck, (rust, congealed fuel, carbon, etc.).Could be almost anything after sitting for 10 years. Gas would turn to varnish, don't know about diesel.

Alright folks I pulled the pump tore it down soaked everything in carb cleaner. Wiped down with a soft cloth and did a little scraping with a tooth pick to remove most of the carbon. The rack on the pump was not moving back and forth very well so I knew that was one problem.

Put the pump back together all parts were moving nicely. Bled fuel lines and number one cylinder was pumping good. Cranked the tractor up and the tractor just continuously revved up to full throttle without me touching the throttle at all.

So what do I do now? I'm sure it's got something to do with the governor and me not hooking something back up right... At least I hope but I'm lost now. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

One of 2 things happened.. you either put a plunger or barrel in backwards OR the control rack fell away and behind the stop screw..
the falling rack happens ALL THE TIME if you've never done it before.. the rack is very thin & rides against a spring.. if it falls away from the spring it will rev uncontrollably..

Ok thanks. But what do you mean by putting a plunger or barrel in backwards? Like upside down? And sorry hope that's not a dumb question but I'm 25 and brand spanking new to a deisel. Reason I asked is because there is a groove on the plunger does it have to be set a certain way?

Thats a good bit of oil. I was thinking i always heard folks say 150:1 or 100:1 your down there at 80:1.

I know it wont hurt it, i was just more thinking to save a little on 2 stroke oil. It wont matter for the tractor cause most of us use so little fuel in them but in a diesel truck you would be running quite a bit of two stroke oil.

I run 300:1 and find it plenty.
