Sounds like your reverse check valve went out. If you check with your local dealer you should be able to get this handled under warranty.

This is the issue that I just ran into, bad reverse check valve. I just had the reverse go out on my SC2450...stopped in at the dealer and before I could finish describing what happened, the service guy said he knew what the issue is.

Apparently there was a batch of the check valves that were manufactured such that the crimp designed to keep the check ball in place let the ball escape.

I take mine in tomorrow, they said they should be able to fix it in about 30 minutes, that is if they can retrieve the ball from the case with a magnet. If they can't get the ball out with a magnet, they have to go a little deeper. He did say of the fixes they have done, only in one case were they not able to get the ball out with a magnet from the topside.

Just thought I'd put this up here for anyone else searching for troubles with losing reverse on their SC2400 / SC2450...

Just to add to this, it may be worth checking with your dealer to see if your serial number falls into the range of affected units. It is a very easy and quick fix, especially before the valve breaks apart.

Not sure exactly the year of mine. What I know of it, it was leased to a local nursery in June of last year, and was returned in early fall which is when we bought it with about 90 hours on it.

Yanmar has recently released a "product improvement" for this issue. Your dealer will be contacting you if your SC falls within the serial number range. Otherwise, contact your dealer and he should have information and be able to update your unit.
