In the past I would crawl underneath multi-flora rose bushes and cut them off, then spray the cut stem with pure concentrated Tordon RTU. On larger stems I would use a cordless drill to actually drill a hole in the top of the stem and shoot a few drops in the drilled hole to kill these plants. Now it seems that Tordon RTU is getting hard to find ( E.P.A. I guess ), but Crossbow is still available. Would Crossbow do the job? Thanks for your help. RRM

Cornell had a woodlot seminar recently recommended "Garlon" for cut stumps. I haven't checked into it yet, may be another option?

I believe you could just Garlon 10E as strickly a basal treatment. That is, not cutting and simply spraying the stem. Should be able to do that 12 months a year (yes, even when dominant).

i weed wack them ( i use a heavy duty string trimmer) and round up them. it knocks them out. big batches go in with pruners and cut them out and spray. good luck they are a pain.

Meaning "dormant" as in the winter months??

We have been fighting them for years as a neighbor had originally planted them on his farm across the road as the MO Dept of Conservation was then touting them as a living fence that was good for wildlife. Crossbow as a foliar spray works good when there is good moisture for them to be growing and I would say between 75 and 85 degree temperatures. Wet the whole bush and it will get them and not kill grass around them. We have also used SPIKE pellets when the rose bushes are far away from trees or other plants we want to keep. You can keep them in check but, if even 1 person next to your land does not, it will be a constant battle. Good Luck
