Anyone have experience with Herd's larger spreader/seeders? I'm looking at their model 750, which holds 750lb in the hopper. They list a lime agitator and smaller hoppers for simultaneously spreading clover or alfalfa with oats.

We live on a hill farm that isn't conducive to truck spreaders for lime. Most spreaders won't handle powdered lime, but the thought of dealing with thousands of pounds of lime in 50# bags makes bulk lime attractive, not to mention the cost difference. The spreader would also be used for fertilizer and overseeding grasses, grains and legumes.

We'll have a 50 hp tractor to do the work. All comments appreciated.

I’d sure like to hear of a spreader that would spread powdered lime well, but I haven’t yet. My place does not lend itself well to bring in spreader trucks and I hate paying the extra price for pelletized lime. Every reference to spreading powdered lime with a cone spreader that I can recall on the forum ended up either talking about the enormous clouds of dust, or lime to damp for the agitator to break up and spread evenly.

Hope you will let us know what you find out. Herd is a good name in spreaders.
