Did anyone's garden get wiped out by the heavy frost we had in the Ohio region last night? My corn just came through a couple of days ago and it looks Ok so far. Really, the only thing that looks bad are a few of my tomato plants and the zuchini plants.

The cold hits us tonight. So far no frost/freeze warnings but the low is supposed to be 42ish. Our average last freeze data is April 15th.

Quite a bit of the garden has sprouted and the potatoes are really going strong. I hope it can all take temps down in the 40s.

Later,
Dan

No, but I about got wiped out by using an old dilapidated swimming pool ladder to hang sheets on my grape vines at 11:00pm last night! :)

Platform gave way and I almost fell through. No one knew I was out there as the family was in bed. I have visions of my wife finding me hanging upside down from the ladder in my pajamas with my hair frozen straight down, or UP in this case!:D:)

All my frost sensitive plants are still in the shop waiting to be transplanted and my corn isn't up yet. I would imagine if they had been out last night they would have been toast. I won't transplant until tomorrow, still a chance of scattered frost tonight. I did cover the strawberries last night, they say temps of 30 degrees and below can damage the blooms, I had 30.7 degrees this morning.
Sounds like you got a good head start on planting, hope you didn't get too much damage.

HEY GUYS ,
Im so glad i decided not to plant the garden til later in the week.Old timers up here claimed not to plant til memorial weekend ,and i tend to stick to there advise.Nothing grows good [except peas] until the ground warms up,so you dont gain nothing, but do risk it all:rolleyes:Ican still see snow up in the shaded areas of the higher mountains up here.SUGARLOAF was still sking 2 weeks back.Keep warm ive got the oil furnace cooking.
