I got a used 55 gallon plastic barrel for $15 and a 12v transfer pump from harbor freight for $75 and some PVC pipe and fittings. I put the barrel in the back of the truck and drive it to the gas station to fill. I use the tractor loader to get it out of the truck. It fills the tractor well and lasts most of the mowing season.

We tried to fill a non approved barrel and were turned away... actually shut the pump off...

I guess it must vary from place to place.

My service truck has a 34 gallon tank and I installed a pump with a fuel rated diverter valve... it is great for things like tillers, ride on mowers and I never have to carry gas in cans...

Go at night and pay at the pump.

Well the fact that I "Semi Retired" 2 years ago and now only work 45-60 hours a week, I only get about 10 hours a week of tractor time. With an 11 gallon fuel tank, that will last me over a month. So I am going to get another 14 gallon caddy and use the FEL. That makes the most sense for me. I do feel stupid for not thinking of that myself, and Thank you guys for suggesting it. I will have to put a longer hose on the caddy to make it reach, but even I can work a hose clamp.

Kids got me the same caddy for Christmas. I slip the forks on, slide the handle over the right side fork and lift. Original hose is plenty long when the caddy is dangling under the forks.

I would like to know more about your setup. My truck also has a large tank and my gas cans never seem to be full when I need it.

Service truck is a 1985 Chevrolet gasoline powered van.

I added an inline electric fuel pump and a 3-way off the shelf fuel valve just behind the front bumper and it's attached to a coiled 3/8 fuel line stored behind the license plate which is hinged.

It would take awhile to transfer a lot of fuel... just perfect for the small amounts needed for mowers, tillers, edgers or to make gallon mixes of 2 cycle.

The reason I decided to do this is because having a van whatever I carry is ALWAYS INSIDE and sometimes even the best fuel cans will have a few drops spilled and smell of gasoline on a hot day was objectionable.

It's been set up like this for 25 years...

Anyone remember the GM cars from the 80's with the gas filler behind the real license plate?

I bought one of these spring hinged brackets and mounted it on the front bumper.

Standard procedure for me is turn on the pump, switch the diverter, pull out the fuel line and turn on the 1/4 turn ball valve at the end and start filling... when nearing full I switch the diverter from hose back to the carb and then let whatever residual drip out from the hose...

This way there is no gas in the line or at the front of the truck except when fueling a can and equipment...

Still get some strange looks from passers by when I using it...
