That's a great lookin' tractor. If it doesn't smoke a lot and the gears and clutch are good, you stole it. If the hydraulics are also good, you just made the buy of the year. u need to post that in Muhammad's thread about great deals.

The governor when not going up a hill maybe some old gas... put some Lucas gas treatment or SeaFoam in it and it might just even out.. sounds like mild surging to me.

Glad to hear you made an exceptionally good deal too! I recently bought a 1972 Ford 2000 with 3 cylinder gasoline engine, hi/low range, good PTO and hydraulics, two brand new rear tires and fresh paint for $1700. After buying it, I replaced the seat, steering wheel, front tires, and put an over-run clutch on the PTO shaft. Mine does have a little bit of blow by, but it doesn't smoke any out the exhaust pipe. I bushhogged about 3 acres of very high, thick grass and weeds and it used about a cup of oil, barely enough to bring the level down on the dip stick. I think I got a pretty fair deal too. I've got a little less than $2000 in the tractor now.

Sweet, It is nice to see that good deals can still be had. Yeah the 1500 smacker purchase price was nice but I plan to have more than that in her. I plan to fix her up while using it. She will eventually get new paint, etc.

I drove this thing about 12 miles back to my house down some back country dirt roads. It did really good. The only thing I did notice is I had it in high gear (4th) and it would pull up to speed and then the governor would cut it out for a sec, then back up to speed, and over and over. So I guess maybe a new governor is in order? But when she was pulling up a hill it wouldn't cut out just went right on up it. Overall I am extremely pleased with it. There are a few things I need to do, replace wiring, find the right size battery, and go through it from front to back.

the 63/64 2000 ( and 4000 ) front sheet metal does not have the round 'cyclops' badge the 53-62 models did.
