Hey guys, it is hard for me to believe that winter is coming on. When I left Crosby for West Africa 5 weeks ago it was hot, here it is always hot as I am about 6 degrees north of the equator. Everyone keeps telling me how cold it is and I keep thinking <HUH it cant be winter already.

Last December I was home in Crosby, Texas which is suburbs of Houston on Dec 11th if I recall when I got about 10" of snow which lasted all of one day but it sure messed up traffic as all the overpasses closed for at least a half day. No one could go anywhere, but the sun warmed it all up to mid 50s by the afternoon. Heck that wouldnt have even turned a head up in the northern territories, but sure put everyone in deep freeze in Houston which has nothing but sand trucks to fight the icy roads with which we do occassionally get.

Its not going to snow here this winter........ I called Al Gore and ordered extra global warming.

Thanks! I guess we have some warmer weather coming later this week, but it's been a chilly October so far here. I was thinking that perhaps this Global warming thing has an eye like a hurricane, and we might be in that. I don't guess I'll throw out my snowshoes just yet! :D

Winter, changing implements over, all regarding 3 inches????

You guys would'nt last a week up here in the winter.

I'm still trying to get my brother to go water skiing with me, and no, I don't own a wet or dry suit.

I drained the block on the boat but have not yet completely winterized, still holding out hope.

The boss on the other hand, who grew up in Miami is still not used to the new england climate. Probably won't be by the time we go south in retirement.

I must admit though, I do feel the cold a little more than I used to. It is raining here an in the 40's and I've got a sweatshirt on working outside, I am sweating though.

We've already had a few consecutive nights where it got into the teens. We had some snow, but it didn't stick.

My preparations so far include the preliminary stuff like blowing water out of the sprinkler system, sprayer, pressure washer, etc. I still need to bring all of my paint, etc. inside. Moving the box blade or angle blade over are easy enough that I'll just do that when I go to plow snow. I rolled up all the hoses a few weeks ago, and I've moved the sprinkler stuff into the shed and moved the shop heaters into the garage.

I'm still hoping that it holds off long enough for me to rip and till the garden and pasture that I'm renovating. I'd like to mow down the taller weeds in the other pasture too. One way or another I need to burn some diesel as I still have summer blend in the tank and in the can.

Joel,
Man I love the snow! Wish we had more... The concern for 3 inches around here is all the idiots that can't drive in it..
And since the local governments can't handle it, schools and offices close with just a few inches of the white or clear stuff...
Actually the gravel road I live off of is not cleared by the county or state right away.. Often it goes several days...
So with an effort to save time and stay out of the cold, especially with no cab.- I swap that implement when it looks like snow..

Now, if I lived up there--
I'd have a cab and nice enclosed workshop with a good heater and a snowblower.... but alas that is one toy errr tool I doubt I will ever need....

J, don't let the boss hear you, you'll be getting emails from her looking to swap out locations.

Snowing as I type and it is sticking to ground and the road is actually getting a little slippery.

Will be 60's this week and with luck I'll be back on the water......wishfull thinking, but I aint given up.

Is cold today though.

Do you think the snow will cool down the lake at all??

Removed the belly mower, cleaned and coated it with graphite paint. Sharpned the blades and greased the spindles for next spring. Mounted the tiller for fall tilling.
