Hi, I'm getting ready to make a toothbar similar to JohnF ASI's. Here's a link to his thread.

I'm thinking mine will be 1/2" x 4" bar stock with 1" x 1" "teeth". I'm figuring tooth spacing to be about 10 to 12 inches across the bar. I'll be using it for digging, brushing, rock removal and anything else I can think of. I'm going to make up a few "extenders", tubing to slip over the 1" x 1" teeth, and they'll be 3 or 4 feet long. This is on a 3510 Mahindra.

The question is how far should the teeth stick out past the front of the loader? 6" ??? Any other input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I sold the one I made for my tractor to a friend who has the same tractor but I'll be building another for mine in the spring. I'd go with the 6 inches past the bucket if you are going to slide extensions tubes on them later. I haven't decided whether to use the approach of JohnF ASI using 1x1 or to just buy the teeth like I did my first one. Come spring time and I build, I'll post some pics of mine then.

the shorter the tooth the more force exertion will be put onto it during lifting of brush ect using the slide over extensions that is.

it is also wise to keep them on a good measurement in case you want to make some even marks in the ground, say 6 or 12" ;)

I made up some pallet forks which works great for brush removal, sure work well for a lot of things. it is made from 2x2 tubing 3/16 wall. and added 3/16 thick 2x2 angle to the out side of the tubes cut in small groves every 6" so that 3/8" chain can be held in place the full length of the angle. I've been using it as a log mover by chaining across opening of the forks and around log the log is raised on the chain across the forks and held onto for dragging by loops around log. this lets the log roll/twist and move about some to prevent damage to the forks in a bind. I made them with the chain hook/notches so I could move larger rocks on the chain bed (run chain back & forth 3+ time leaving center of bed with more loops of chain so the rock stays sunk down into the chain bed without slipping or rolling about...

sorry I don't think I have any photos of this too; (it also works great to lift whole logs in the 8~10' long range for long distance moving or when it is too soft and you want them to stay mud free. what I did 3 days this past week. was log moving using these methods...)

Here's the one I made a few years ago. The teeth are 7 inches on center and stick out 6 inches from the bucket edge. I used 1 inch bar stock and skidloader replaceable teeth.
