Hershey Closes US plants

ANd Hershey cut it's earnings forecasts today. I reckon this will be the end of another fine company.

I've contacted Hershey...told them I'll never buy any more of their product.

It's funny to hear all the reasons of why these US. companies move their operations over seas. Union wages , Lazy US workers , Too many EPA restrictions ,over time, pensions, insurance, ETC,ETC, . If all the above excuses of why companies move were true . We here in AL. would not have had 3 auto makers locate their plants here IE, Mercedes-Benz, Hyundia,Honda & a couple of mini steel mills The most rescent will be a 3.7 billion dollar ThyssenKrupp steel mill. All of which are very good paying jobs ! The reason companies move over seas is to FATTEN their pockets by paying as little labor cost as possible. I for one don't have to eat another hershey candy bar ever & I'll be ok!

I heard candy companies pay less for sugar when they manufacture outside the US...something about a tax or surcharge instated years ago.

I believe that. But that surcharge is already built in to our final price.

Once they move the company, do u think they will lower the price to reflect the savings or will they pocket the money?

It was just announced that the last Hershey plant in Canada will be closing. 600 people out of work. Sad.

It's about 25 miles from me and it has about 600 employees full time and another 200 - 300 seasonal employees. They were good paying jobs as well.
