I've been watching a thread about the fuel prices here in America and the question was raised: Have the fuel prices increased dramatically in Europe lately?

Being the only active European poster that I can think of, what do you know about your prices and the prices across the channel from you?

Are there any other international posters who would like to weigh in?

Don't forget - the greenback has been evaporating while most major currencies have been holding their own. Oil is priced in US $, so, even though some government/companies have taken advantage of consumer naivete, in what you would call foreign currencies, the issue should be less significant.

So, case in point, the loonie has appreciated 30% as oil has gone up. Gas round here is C $0.77/liter, which is up about 28% from when oil was below US $20/barrel.

Its also worth noting that a big cost of gas is taxes in most countries, and thats doubly true in Europe, so the cost has more to do with policy than oil prices.

In any event, this is true for almost all commodities, most of which are priced in US $. The rising cost (for you) is partly do to a sliding currency.

Get used to it. It going to get a lot worse.

Excellent point, and I agree with your summary. I was just wondering, as a consumer good, has the percentage of price increase been similar in the European (or other) markets.

It all started when some people marched on the fuel supply depot (you probs heard it in the news) effectivly preventing any fuel getting out. Prices went mental for a while ( i just walked everywhere) pretty much what you ask is what is payed.
They stayed up about 98p a litre ($10 a gallon) for a while and steadily went down to about 86p litre.
Its stayed around there since, going up and down occationally but never below 86p litre.
My post on fuel prices was sparked from when i heard on the radio that prices were gunna go up to £1 a litre, but it aint happened yet.

I believe accros the pond its slightly lower price but still WAY higher than in USA.

Yip, i resigned to the fact its going to keep going up, ill just have to charge more to make up for it.

I still find it amusing you Americains worrying it will rise to $3 a gallon, having to trade up all your trucks ect....
Its just the way it is here, it aint that bad....

I too am amused by the whining. I bought the little cars a couple years ago expecting this, so my truck is parked until I need it. When I need it, its there, when I don't, it gets parked.

BTW: Both of my VW's get better fuel mileage than the Hogs do! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Just to be clear I was pointing out that a declining greenback will cause almost everything to rise in price.

I drove a thousand or so KM in Europe last fall and it surprising how quickly you get used to gas at C $2/litre.
