Don't think so. Northern sells tractors and implements. HF doesn't.

Something with Northern is if you have a store close you can order a catalog item and have it shipped to the store and it won't cost you shipping.

I have no idea about HF.

I've been wanting to ask this question for years... is "Northern Tool" the same company that I used to know as Northern Hydraulics?

Yes it is... I asked Northern Tool that question a few years ago.

Jim, yes, they were called Northern Hydraulics and they used to even sell plans to build your own log splitter.

...There is a Northern and HF close by but the people at Northern act as though you are an inconvience, the people at HF are friendly and helpful. Unless HF does not have what I need I am reluctant to darken the doors at Northern.

For my one time visit to the Northern Tool store in Duluth, GA I found the staff very friendly and helpful. This was about the same as the good customer service I'm used to at HF.

I've no doubt it just depends on the particular store and the individual employees in the stores. I've generally been quite pleased with the service at my nearest Northern Tool store. This past Wednesday, I bought this mechanics adjustable seat after visiting both Sears and Pep Boys and I got better service, and I think a better product for less money than either of the other places.

Unfortunately, the nearest Harbor Freight store is over 30 miles from me (Northern Tool is about 10 miles), but I do have a number of things from Harbor Freight, including a pneumatic angle die grinder and a pneumatic 3/8" ratchet. They both work quite well, but I also know from prior experience that if they die, you throw them away because getting parts is nearly impossible.

Thanks. That answers that.
I did some business with them 20+ years ago, but not since.

Bird- you have 7,468 times as many posts as me. I don't think I'll even try to catch up.

There is one catch with NT- if it isn't a warehouse stocked item but is shipped from the manufacturer then they do charge you shipping...some of their larger items are this way. The catalog points out which items this applies to. I once ordered some connectors for a porta-power from NT for no charge store delivery and was quite disappointed, it took weeks to get to the store from their distribution center 70 miles away.

AFAIK everything HF has is stocked at their warehouses, with the possible exception of the Chinese tractor, and can go to the store no charge, they simply put it on the next delivery cycle. The store I frequent gets a truck every Wednesday.
