HF tools that suck

Trolls can post where they like, you're right. People who respect others who have nothing of value to add to the topic don't. The thread is about opinions on specific tools. Am I taking it too seriously, maybe. But since this thread could save me or someone else from buying junk then it's our money earned by us working so shouldn't those who find value take it at least some what serious?

So yes it is about changing people lives. The fact is that a lot of people who buy from HF do so because they just can't afford to buy said tool otherwise. So the difference is buy the right tool and fix your car or tractor for a fraction of the cost or buy the wrong tool and now they may not have enough to pay someone to fix their car or tractor for them.

Thanks to hard work and some lucky breaks I'm not in this position but it wasn't that long ago when I was (the internet wasn't around back then). I had to make choices like do I eat tonight or do I pay someone to fix the power steering pump that's on it's last legs?

Having the right to be able to do something doesn't always mean that you need to exercise that right. Yes, that's a pet peeve of mine.

Well, as I said, I didn't insult you or anyone else in this thread as you just did, but that is to be expected when folks run out of ammo in a disagreement.

I made my living with tools, and I didn't do badly at it, so I may look at low quality tools from a different vantage point. I bought the best, and used the best, because my livlihood, and the wefare of my family depended on it. I respect high quality workmanship in my tools, and disrespect the junk sold here to the unsuspecting from abroad.

If you consider everyone who disagrees with your point of view a troll, well.... I feel sorry for you for being so narrow minded and unaccepting of others ideas.

Goodbye.

Just a reminder. There is no need to get into it with anyone on TBN. Just go to "My Home" and click on "Edit Ignore List". Add your new ex-friend's screen name to the list and they will disappear from your life.

If you are reading this, I evidently haven't p!ssed you off......... yet.

Who is a troll?

Is a troll someone who posts a reply on a thread whose reply doesn't actually conform to the content of the thread?

Or is a troll someone who posts a reply on a thread whose reply has nothing to do with the content of the thread but just to call another poster a troll for replying with a reply that has nothing to do with the content of the thread?

Or am I a troll?

I always thought a troll was someone who posted some comment that is intentionaly contentious without adding any value to the content of the thread. Something like "I disagree and I think you're a fool because of your opinion."

But the real question is why are some of you even posting in this thread? You have stated that you will not buy anything from HF so what business do you even have posting here? Do you go into the threads of tractor brands you don't own and post how awful they are? Only a troll would. So again why are you posting here? It would be nice if the mods could delete all these posts that have nothing to do with garbage HF tools that suck so people who want to learn what to avoid when buying from them or what to expect if they do can do so without reading a bunch of post from people bashing something they have no clue about.

Haha! Wow name calling. You are really a class act... so in an effort to see eye to eye... If i'm a troll then stay off my bridge u commi.

Forums are open to everyone and their opinions. Your zeal for censoring others that don't agree with is very disturbing. Are they selling "Communist's for Dummies" at Harbor Freight too? LOL!!!

Many of our posts are pointing out that you should avoid HF type tools period! All of them! So we are sticking with the subject. They ALL suck IMHO. Buy hey that's just MY opinion!

Grunt grunt grunt

So it seems like a vast majority of the stuff we all buy from HF we are generally satisfied with. (at least the... i paid pennies on the dollar, so the fact that it lasted me only ______ was worth it to me)

so to that end... it might be easyer to list what HASNT! gone well.

to date the only thing that has been a total dud was the flareing tool. it was useless. it would do single flares, but not double flares needed for break lines. Overall failier mode, not enough clamping force on the tubeing due to poor tollarnce on hole size. I tried grinding down the mateing surfaces (thus reducing the overall diam... but only in one direction which resulted in slightly oblong flairs that still wouldnt double flair.

how about a rateing system.... 1-10...
1 being "not worth the cardboard packing it came it"
10 being "cant tell the diffrence between it and the name brand high $ version"

flaring tool - 1
grinding discs - 7
40$ auto-darking helmet. - 6 (works ok, but the strap broke after about 6 months)

assume everything else ive bought im happy with.

Here's the OP. It clearly identifies what the purpose of this thread is.

In my eyes anyone making blanket staments like "Don't buy Deere, they suck" when they admit they actually don't own a Deere would be a troll. Now remove Deere and insertKubota, Kioti, NH, Ford, Chevy and the result will be the same. So why is it different if it's Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, or some other company?

But it's OK. Everybody here is free to make their choice as to who is helpful and who is not. If anyone is unhappy for me saying so, I'm sorry but I was raised to step up and say something when you see a double standard.

Funny thing is I never called out anyone specific. All I did is reply to those who took offense and replied to my posts. Any if you feel offended and want to blame me, just remember I never used your name. But again, if I hurt your feelings or you felt like I was targeting any one of you in paticular then I'm sorry.

My only point was to return this thread to rating bad tools (and other stuff) sold by HF. This is my last post on this subject. Accept my apology or not, you're free to do as you please, I don't take it personally.

Well reading through these posts is interesting and a lot of you are very passionate about your tools, great. A majority of posters have stated there opinion of HF good or bad. I'm of the mind that yes there are good stuff and junk stuff at HF. But people have also stated as to the quality of name brands. In my last post I picked two major names and showed that even name brands "can" and do manufacture in China. So be it. Another name although the company is HQ'd in Japan (Makita) has out sourced manufactuing to China. So far nothing I've read here have found a truely USA made (to include components) tool. Not saying there isn't but it's few and far between. The point is that if the tool is manufactured to specs it doesn't matter who's doing it. We're in a global economy and nothing is going to change it. Well barring a world war. Now to my personal opinion, I'd like to see more US manufacturing. I'd like to see all of our oil produced here. In a lot of ways I'd like to see us wind back the clock about 50 years. But that isn't going to happen. As long as companies "insist" on quality specifications for their products then you'll end up with a tool etc. that will perform and last. Again JMO.
