i spent 3 great years in England in the 60's: some of them told us, there were only three things wrong with Americans: over paid, over sexed, and over here: absolutely loved the time i spent there: and everything about it:
My mom grew up in Scotland on the River Clyde, with WWII ending when she was age 8. She remembers the troops coming in on the trains to take ships off to the war in Europe. She was even given the canary from a captured German submarine. She and her friends used to sit on the rail embankments and call out to the troops on the trains "got any gum, chum?" and the soldiers would throw them candy and cigarettes from their rations.
I've been to the UK about 6 times, traveling from the south coast all the way up to the Isle of Skye etc. I have relatives all over there. I've always enjoyed the English and Scottish countryside, wonderfully friendly people.
