Densleigh, they are still in the area. They are down the road from Burgess machinery (good shop, always go for a look when im up there). sounds like your on the other side of Crewe

Sounds like you got some good projects going, and have the room and tools to do it.
havent personally started anything, got a job and its coming up on the mowing season and i doubt id have the time fitting it all in. anyway the price of hydraulics is mental, dont have the wallet right now, fancy the idea of a front 3pt if i decide to keep the kubota.
Unless i do become attached to it its is going up for sale when ive done a few jobs and made it earn the effort ive put into it, spending most the time at the mo fixing it and various other mowers. After the mowing season im gunna make one of the rideons into a racer for a laugh, bigger gearbox and onother engine. may weld another box on the back and make it a 4wd 6 wheeler /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif Spent most of the last few weeks fixing the darn things. /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

so is this a mower on a backhoe arm, sweet, i like it
keep us up to date on you projects, hey you never know, it might make me get up off my lazy..... anyway

Densleigh thanks for the explanation of the tractors. My Email is tractornut@hotmail.com. Here in the old days theres been a fair share of old home built tractors. Ive got a lead on one that has an old Austin motor and transmission that runs into a large truck transmission and axle. On the Benfor Ill just use the axles frame and drive for a digger/ mini articualated loader. Mostly just to do light material rehandling, as i have a back hoe and an excavator right now. If you use the search feature you c anfinda picture of a tractor loader and backhoemycousinJimmy Lambert builtandmy friendjimmy Wellls built a small 4 wheel drive and steer loaderfrom 4x4 truck parts.

How about Vin? Isn't he kinda sorta a Brit? </font>
HOW DARE YOU, I AM NO MORE A BRIT THAN YOU ( I BELIEVE IN DEMOCRACY NOT A MONARCHY).
Talk about waving a red rag to a bull. I am an Austalian with no connection to britain, I am speechless at this comment.

Hey Densleigh, where are you? I'm just on the Chester side of Tarporley and I'm guessing that you're pretty close by.

You're right, not too many Brits here - I think it's because we can't get hold of lots of land to play in!!
That said, I have an IH484 tractor that I'm currently making an 8' dethatcher/scarifier for. After that I want to convert a 5' sweeper/collector that I've bought to hydraulic drive seeing as the PTO shaft it came with is too short! Problem is I don't know what size hydraulic motor I need. After that it should be pretty simple.

Hi Metal Chicken,

I am indeed just to the East of you just outside Crewe home of probably best motor in the world.

I get to Chester on a regular basis about 1/month and pass via Tarporley.

Intersted in your ideas for de-thatcher. I have bits for a 5ft brush for beech husks sweeping on lts of formal lawn and a big pave brick drive / road.

If you root on the web you can gain idea of hp needed from machine specs etc, remember Hydraulics is a slower speed than a petrol engine. You will probably need a good pump and large tank to keep it cool.

Due to cost of hydraulics I use a comon source with a universal mounting frome for attachments etc.

Hi densleigh I'm a Brit as well.Originally from near Oxford but now Live in France. Only place i could afford to buy a house and land. so that i then needed a tractor.
I find that i get lots of ideas from this site, its just having the time and reason to build things, at the moment i am building a rear bucket for my tractor from scrap i have collected, even though i should be renovating the house.

Well when you're going down the main road from Tarporley to Chester, when you get to Tarvin on your right, I'm 1 mile on your left!

The dethatcher is basically a simple 8' frame with two rows of double spring tines. I actually finished it tonight and had to take it out fora trial run - seems to work great.
I certainly can't take any credit for it, I got the basic design from one that someone hs alrady made here. I am pretty pleased though 'cos this is the first thing I have ever made from metal. Luckily a friend of mine has a mig welder and some other bits which he stores at my place, so I thought I'd have a go at welding - not pretty but it seems to work.
I'll post pictures tomorrow.

I've emailed a company about the size motor they use for their sweepers so I'm hoping they will provide the answer I need. Hydraulic power shouldn't be a problem as my tractor supplies 9 gallons/min after the power steering has taken it's share. Who are the company in Scotland you use for hydraulic supplies?
