Hi new here, I need help trying to identify my massey

We bought this tractor with no info about it.

It has continental motor z 145 I believe the beginning serials are 6452 can't remember the rest can get more info tomorrow and some pics.

From what I found it is a 1964 180 however the grill and hood for that is square my hood and grill is round with a chrome piece in the upper nose portion. It also has the old ford type fenders. The starter is on the left side intank and exhaust on the right.

I would like to also add the factory color was yellow.

After looking around a bit I think I may have a 65 with a newer engine. Also the engine was a differnet yellow then the rest of the tractor.

Your describing a Continental Z145 4 cylinder gas engine. Sitting in the seat, exhaust and carb on the right and distributor and started on th left. Look on the left side, there is a panel below the battery tray if the tractor still retains it's original serial number. The first three letters of the serial number should be SGM S=Normal Width Standard G=Gas/Petro M= Dual Clutch. If it is a 100 series the serial numner would begin with 641XXXXX

Yellow MF tractors where industrial version used commercially. Many have found there way to homeowners who restored them back to the traditional colors.

The MF 180 non industrial version where painted up almost identical to the common 135 but bigger. Post us some pictures. -robert

I will post some tomorrow. Thanks for the reply. I found the numbers on the left side of the engine on a plate. I don't remember seeing any under the battery tray. we have the tractor down to the chassis with all the metal off. It was so thick with repaints we had to strip it.

There are two plates. One is the serial number for the Z145 which on mine is kinda behind the distributor (mine is missing). The tractor serial number was located either on the lower left on the dash or below on the left side under the battery on a flat piece that's actually part of the battery support. It's not uncommon for it to be missing. There are however clues in appearance to get within a a year or two of the actual date of birth. The clamshell and flat fenders where both options.

as you can see I was mistaken about the z145 it's a z134 rest of the number on the plate is 645248

I couldn't find the other plates you mentioned

Your tractor looks more like a model 65 industrial. Google it. The serial plate in your picture is the serial number for the motor only. It doesn't tell you what year the tractor is. They started making the Model 65 around 1957.

I stand corrected. After looking at the grills of both, you are correct. They are similar when you don't have the center part attached except for the grill. One is horizontal on the 40 is vertical. Sharp eye. :thumbsup:
