Hi there my 1980 ish Massey Ferguson 245 tractor is making terrible engine noise what is causing this?

I wouldnt crank it again. You may have lost a rod bearing. It may be fixable in the tractor where it is. I've seen beat out bearings and the crank and rod was still fine. Just put new bearings in it. I've done it on the grass in the front yard. The key is dont run it no more. It's worth looking into. Take it down and see. Only turning over of that engine should be with a wrench. If it has a loader, unhook it and drag tractor backwards out of it. Get if to a decent location and go to work.

Sounds alot like a broke wiggle pin or loose wobble shaft but I once saw a plastic bag hung up in the cooling fan do the same thing. Been a long time but as I recall it was a Wal-Mart bag.

Does that Massey have an FEL on it? Can't tell from the video.
If it does, does it drive the hydraulic pump off of the front of the crankshaft, My Ford 3000 made sounds somewhat similar to that when it was shearing off the splines on the pump and shaft.
I have had and heard more than a couple engines with spun /wasted con rod bearings and the video does not sound like the loud tap a piston makes when contacting a head More of a loud squeak. With the idle speed can't really tell.
A rod knock will get louder as engine RPM increases. many "rod" knocks ended up being just a bad injector on some diesel engines. I would also check the water pump for play maybe a bearing going. Fan blade touching a shroud?

The sound definitely sounds like one "squeak" per engine revolution.

The PTO is off while cranking correct?
