high power air rifles

OK after watching several reviews on youtube i narrowed my choice down a bit: Benjamin Trial NP is cheaper but accuracy seems horrible. Diana is a brand ive never heard off, but its more expensive than a Weihrauch which is the most popular brand name for accuracy. Then there is the Gamo hunter 1250 extreme, again a brand name known for kid rifles, cant find any reviews on accuracy. And its a wee bit more expensive than a Weihrauch with comparable punch..

That means i'm narrowed down to either the HW97KT blackline (plastic handle) for about 350 euro, a HW77 which is basically the same rifle (with a very good reputation for durability and precision) but with a wooden handlebar, about 375 euro, and the gas ram HW90 which packs a slightly harder punch and costs about 400 euro here.

Does anyone have experience with gas ram air rifles ? (theoben system) and is it really a benefit over the time proven HW77/HW97 (AKA Beeman R9 ) springer design ?

I have the Benjamin trail NP - don't get it, it's very difficult to shot but I will say that when you do hit the intended game it's instant lights out. I would recommend the Diana 460 magnum - it's very accurate and very powerful.

Just a perspective

I have an assortment of adult air rifles. Precharged pnuematics, springers and multi stoke pumpers.
The are great fun but not toys any of them. 12 fpe doesn't seem like much, but it's enough for "small game" with a good shot.

The PCP guns in either .17 or .22 caliber can spit lead out faster than the speed of sound, so there is the added "crack" with every shot, and they are NOT quiet by any stretch.

And in comparison, my most powerful air gun is good for just over 30fpe, while my .22 lr rimfire is good for around 100 fpe. And that's why the pellets are shaped differently than the powder driven bullets ;-)

In the last 5 years, there has been a lot of cross over in the performance of air guns and that of small caliber or black powder fire arms.

Have fun, act responsibly.

cheers

I have a Beeman 177/22, but have only used the .22 bbl. I have shot it quite a bit and like it a lot, killed several snappers in the pond. I also have an old Benjamin .22 that can pump up to 10 pumps and I can hit better with it than I can with the Beeman, because of the recoil of the springer. The Benjamin has a red dot sight and I like to shoot it, except for the pumping, hard on old shoulders. I got the Beeman at Walmart and it was <$110, included both barrels and scope. My dream springer would be an RWS and would like to try the side cock arm model, just a little rich for my wallet. These air guns are fun to shoot and really cheap ammo.
