High Standard 1911

I guess what I find amazing is for how long it came up with society to determine that smoking can be bad for you, I would think that it’s a given that you don’t play with guns.

LMTC, good points, however I guess I just amazed at how dumb our society has become when we need to put “warnings” on firearms per the internet.

WTA, the gun business is one that I could never figure out, particularly distribution and going to market. Don’t mean to get flamed, but honestly, I’ve seen too many idiots handling firearms (and written instructions won’t help). One reason why I’m glad I can now shoot in my back yard instead of using the local range.

Apologies, I'm off the soap box now.

By the way, I had heard the High Standard wasn't a bad pistol:D

I'd have to look to be certain exactly which version I have, but I think it is a Supermatic Citation. Goes back a few decades. Astounding accuracy.

I too have one of those old High Standard .22s. Fine pistol for sure. Of course the High Standard name is now owned by a different bunch of folks.

I have a High Standard .22 target pistol with 5 1/2" bull barrel. Great piece. I got it back in mid 1970's, and it's still, even after all these years, amazingly accurate. Only problem I've ever had was with the magazines... poor tack weld on the base, and when it was a full clip, the spring pressure popped the base completely off. No problem, though, 'cause I have a couple spare mags.

I'm not familiar with the 1911 - but if my old .22 is any indication, I'd say the 1911 is probably a good item.

I have two High Standard 9 shot .22s. One has a short barrel and the other a long barrel. For the short barrel, I also have a magnum cylinder. Goes CRACK!!! when you shoot the magnums. Hurts your ears. :D

O.K. Here goes. We bought the small one for protection, but put it up when our first was born. I am now very proficient with a baseball bat. The long one was a gift from a relative who no longer wanted it. Kind of turned into a set.

Both very nice. I was unaware that High Standard made those. I'd seen Harrington & Richardson nine shooters in the past. I believe some of those were top break rather than a swing out cylinder.

I'd not shot my Citation in a few years, need to get it out and see if it still works.

My first handgun was a 9 shot .22, snub nosed Hi Standard revolver. I have no idea how old it was since my Dad bought it for me from an individual in 1958. A year or so later, I traded it in to a dealer on a new "Double Nine" Hi Standard .22 revolver with a 4" barrel. It was a western style with white plastic grips. Of course both of them were double action. I kept that one until 1964 after I got on the police department. Back then we were issued S&W K model .38 spl. with 4" barrel and were required to go armed at all times away from home (concealed if not in uniform, of course), so I traded in the Hi Standard .22 on a S&W Chief. .38 spl. with 2" barrel to carry in plain clothes.

Incidentally, for you youngsters . . . the City of Dallas paid $50 for my S&W K model in 1964, and I paid $50 and change for the Chief with a holster, box of shells, and tax.
