As long as I had my camera out today, I decided to take a shot of my high tech /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif soda cooler. It's an insulated kid's lunch cooler hanging around the steering column on it's strap. It keeps a 2 liter Diet Pepsi pretty cold for a couple of hours in the Florida sun, even open like that, or will close on a couple of smaller bottles. Got it from WalMart for about $5 or $6 bucks. Took a good 8 seconds to install it, after adjusting the strap with a little bungi cord.

Please hold the applause. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Not bad! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif I might try that on my TN, just to see if I beat my knees to death getting on and off.

Do you think it would cool water? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I could hang one from the rear view mirror. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

That's pretty cool,,, suppose you could figure out a porta potty system for us gals so we could get away with that much soda and not have to drive back to the house> LOL /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

The wonders of todays tecknology put to good use.

How many small cans will it hold?

bgott, it's not my knees that get beat to death, but on the little TC18, when there's a 2 liter bottle in there, one foot does get tangled up with it as I get off. With 2-24 oz. or smaller bottles, it lies flatter and doesn't tangle me up as much.

Egon, the cans are pretty much the same diameter as 16 oz, half liter, and 24 oz bottles, so it would hold no more than 2. WalMart had some rectangular nylon coolers similar to this that would hold a six pack; I was originally going to get one of those and find somewhere on the ROPS to hang it.

But then, I spotted this one, and realized I could have my drink right in front of me. I also don't buy cans very often. I drink a lot of Diet Pepsi, and the 2 liter bottles are a lot cheaper than the cans, especially on sale.

Hey Don!

Here's a way to have your drinks AND not get your feet tangled in your cooler! /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice setup.

People sometimes forget the importance of fluids while out working. Being up on the tractor it is even easier to forget about it as you mind is so busy doing other things, etc.

On my 1920, on my right side rops upright, I bandclamped a bracket for a small 5# fire extinguisher.. on the left support, I band clamped a small 'J' shaped 'warded' latch... like you see for horse tack.. have ta push the little tap in to open it.. with this i hang a small 2 quart cylindrical cooler I have.. it is a mini igloo or thermos brand.. fits great, hangs on the top handle, and a small bungie around the base keeps it from flopping. I just rigged this up last month, and just got to use it for the first time at the beginning of the month when i cut my pasture down. Was nice not having to drive back to the truck every hour and hopping off for a drink o' water..

as for the comment by the lady wanting a porta-go.. I guess you are outta luck.... Come to think of it, I guess that would be a tad inconvienient to have to run to the barn / house to 'recycle' some water... Perhaps that is why my wife gets irritated at me when i 'go' out in the pasture... She says something like ' Well that's just inappropriate'.. and throws her arms and makes a huff sound... I can't figure it out... No neighbors can see... it IS a farm... the animals take a leak whenever they want.... I can't see trapesing up to the house.. slipping of fthe rubber boots, and running in for a 15 second 'break'... all said and done.. that's probably 5 minutes of work wasted.. and I never have enough time on the farm.. always something needing to be done...

Chris,

Sounds like you need to add a relief tube on your 1920 like military aircraft have in the cockpits for the pilots! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

For those who aren't quite exactly sure what a relief tube is, it's a rubber tube with a "funnel" at the user end that is run down through the floor of cockpit and then outside of the fuselage. I think you can figure out it's intended purpose! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Maintaing these tubes was one of the responsibilities of my shop when I was in the Navy. Anybody wanna guess what happened to a pilot's relief tube when the pilot p i _ _ e d (pun intended!) us off? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If I'm back in the pasture on the tractor, I usually just come to a stop, idle down a second, and stand off the side... no need to even dismount the tractor... unless there is a good wind...

I hear that! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Although, that can be dangerous too. A few years ago (like 30 /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif) I was working a summer job on a grading crew for a paving company. The grader operator used to do the same thing from the cab of the grader. He was always careful about looking around before he did anything, especially if we were working in a more urban area.

Well, one day after getting home from work, I'm relaxing while reading the paper, and lo and behold, here's a picture of the grading crew preparing the parking lot for the new store that was being built. Yup, there was the grader operator standing (with his back to the camera) in the cab of the grader! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif The caption to the picture said something like "Grader Driver Checks His Work".

Oh boy, if they only knew! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Because the way he was standing, I knew he wasn't just checking his work! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

What was really funny was that the next day at work, every guy on the crew came in with a copy of the picture and asking the grader operator to explain how he was checking his work! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I guess if he was measuring.. he should'a brought a longer 'ruler'! /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif

You ought to be able to get a johnny bottle at any marine supply store. They come with a female adaptor. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Talk to lady snowmobilers about a "ladies port-a-potty". The sledders in Michigan have a system that allows her to keep the snomobile suit on.

Start talking about coolers, and so far it's gotten around to porto-potties!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I appreciate the "low tech" approach to cool drinks. Toward the other end of the spectrum, anyone riding one of the propane powered tractors has the means at hand for a real good cooler. The liquid propane is converted to a gas prior to going into the carb. Typically, hot water from the engine provides the heat of vaporization and prevents the site of the evaporation from frosting up. Alternatively, you can let the propane go through an orifice (cap tube or expansion valve) like with freon in an A/C and let the cooling effect chill an insulated box (small frige) and do something useful with the cooling effect rather than throw it away. This also works really good for highway vehicles that are powered by propane, especially on long runs.

There is a device.sometimes referred to as H.E.R.E. (Human Element Range Extender) It is a small innexpensive urine collection device sold by most pilot shops. There are adaptors for conversion for female use. They are quite useful in varous situations, not only flying or soaring in private aircraft. From the male perspective, they are a vast improvement over a screw lid pop bottle, at least while flying a plane.

Being the curious sort, I am intrigued regarding the female snowmobile "comfort" process. If anyone actually has personal knowledge of the process but finds it indelicate for public discussion, please clue me in via a private communication.
