High Tension power lines

Interesting post ZMJC. There have been persistent rumors of ranchers having problems with large animals under the high-tension lines.

As an EE, you might have an opinion on the observation that engineers for radio stations exhibit strange behavior from frequently being exposed to strong EMF. But then again that might just be prejudice of the station's marketing folks.

Just because the ground doesn't perk isn't all that bad. There are other sytstems for septic that will work well and aren't that much more expensive. The power lines? Thats a tough call, but it would hurt the value of the land.

My first house had power lines running along the back of the property about 1800' from the house. We'd go back there with flourescent tubes and watch them light in our hands while about 30' away from the lines. My new place is within 400' of bigger lines but these have no effect on the flourescent tubes. Maybe the newer lines are shielded better and have less leakage. The lines can hum in humid and wet weather.

Power lines don't have any sort of shielding. Perhaps it is simply a lower-voltage line.

The other septic system might work well but the price can make a lot unaffordable. Forever ago in TBN time, we had a conversation about non conventional septic systems. Guys in TX were buying systems for $5K, that at the time in my area of NC, would cost over $25K. At the time I was getting quotes for a LPP system for $16K!
