When moving the throttle quickly from low to high on my 8N, the engine will act like it wants to die. It will do this (and sometimes does die) when releasing the clutch when shifting into 4th gear. Any ideas on the cause?

It's stumbling. One reason is a possibly lean mainjet. other reasons could be a blocked fuel screen. Drain the carb bowl into a glass jar and take a look at what come sout.

Could also be weak spark due to bad ignition components.. or even a worn governor race / flat spotted flyballs.. or an improperly adjusted gov spring.

I'd start with the mainjet idea.. mark wher eit is whith chalk.. try 1/4 turn out.. then check for stumble. If it helps.. adjust it out enough that it doesn't stumble.. but also doesn't puff black sooty smoke out the exhaust either.
