Not true today... they did try synthetic fur for a short period but it was found to be inferior to the real thing. All 4 Guards Regiments (and the Governor General's Foot Guards) wear actual black bearskins for their ceremonial uniform.

On another note; I think I look rather spiffy in a fedora. Got two of'em.

I kid you not. There was a rush of steeling trees with a large helicopter years back in Iowa. The trees in demand were old large black walnuts. Guys would come cut it down limb it call in the heli hooked it up and were gone in 20 minutes.

Not true, at one time beavers were over trapped for the pelts to the point of near extinction and consequently declared an endangered species.

Google "national animal of Canada" and the answer returned is beaver. I'll take the word or 3 different MNR agents as to why the protected status. I'm not disagreeing with the over-trapping, that is certainly a factor also. They became the national animal due to their abundance and how the fur trade was so important in the early years of our country.
