Has anyone experienced using the Handihitch on ebay? It is listed multiple times under farm implements/ others (different prices depending on options) Would appreciate any comments or recommendations on other hitch attachments. it looks pretty decent. thanks

If you are refering to the unit made by Redlandhill, yes I have one.

It is well made and the company ships fast.

I have several trailers, Boat, camper, utility that I move around weekly for mowing. This works great as before I had to go around everything with the string trimmer. Now I just move and mow...........Very handy.

I kind of like having a bit stronger hitch and having the ability to move both gooseneck / 5th wheel trailers as well as bumper hitch trailers. Also, I don't see any chain link to attach to your draw bar to prevent the hitch from being pushed up and into the back of your tractor. Your 3 pt. hitch will lift, but does not offer any down force. If you are going down any grade and stop, without a chain holding your hitch to something (I use the draw bar), you can have the 3 pt. hitch jump up and slam your tractor.

I've designed and built about 6 different types of hitches for the 3 pt. hitch of a tractor as well as hitches for the loader. Here is a pic of my 3 pt. hitch that allows you to move both gooseneck trailers as well as bumper hitch trailers. Not shown is the insert to move a bumper hitch trailer and the chain isn't shown in this picture. As you can see, this picture is of a hitch that hasn't been painted. Also, I intentionally am not showing how my chain system works to prevent the 3 pt hitch from raising up. I put up too many details of one previous version of a hitch I designed and someone copied it and began selling it.

Thanks Dargo for the reply. I read the threads on the hitch advertised on this forum. The concern of holding it down was an issue. One question was asked why isn't the ball bolted directly to the drawbar. I do not have a large tractor and I'm not sure if it would provide enough ground clearance and would the 3 pt. linkage prohibit movement. Have you tried moving any trailer with the drawbar of the tractor? Thanks Tony

Dargo, very nice hitch. I am in the process of making one similar just to move empty trailers out of the way for mowing and what not. I am using 2-1/2" 11 ga. square tubing for the horizontal piece. Do you think the 11 ga will be stong enough, or should I go with something heavier? The gn trailer I have to move is 25' if that matters.

Thanks
Ken

Project, I first tried to move a trailer with the draw bar. It was a pain to hook up and the height was too low. That is what got me into my shop to build a better mouse trap so to speak.

Dubsmail, I'm sort of guilty of over building things. I don't know if you can tell, but in the hitch pictured I used 2" square tubing with a 3/8" wall. The three braces (green in color) are 3/8" flat bar and the part where the top link connects is made of 1/2" flat bar. I have a 30 ft. gooseneck trailer that weighs about 5500 pounds empty that I can back up to and snatch up and move easily. I also used the hitch to move a 20' bumper hitch trailer. If you use heavy bracing you should be okay. Just be sure to have a way to attach your hitch to your draw bar after you pick up your trailer so it cannot raise up on you.

I was at my local TSC store yesterday and saw a similar style of hitch like Dargo built(I'm sure not as strong as Dargo's ;), but still looked beefy). It had the ball mounted on top for fifth wheels/goose neck trailers. I believe it was made by king kutter. I'm thinking this is a fairly new product. I have not noticed it at TSC before. I didn't see it on the kingkutter website. TSC has a 10% off coupon on their website (www.mytscstore.com) good thru July 9th.

Don, thanks for the 10% coupon tip. Took a look at the hitch at TSC. Any ideas on hooking up a chain or devise from the tractor drawbar to the top of the hitch just below the ball? Is it possible to drill through it and bolt a link?

Tony, With some further research I discovered the TSC "trailer mover" is not made by king kutter but by another TSC vendor by the name of Tarter Gate.
Local price is $168.65

I mocked up a safety chain on my CAD (Cement Aided Driveway  ) to give you some ideas. The trailer ball on the top of this attachment has two lockwashers under the ball. My thought is two remove one of the lockwashers and replace it with a piece of angle iron. The angle iron would have a hole drilled in one side for the shaft of the trailer ball to pass through and the other side would have a "bango eye" drilled into the other side of the angle iron to hold the top part of the safety chain.(See the attached pictures) This method would save you from any welding or drilling of the attachment.
