Hitting things with the FEL

What an awesome thread. I thought, "Man, nobody ever complains about hitting things, must be just me!" In fact when I let people use the tractor I always tell them you'll ruin whatever you touch with that loader.
Just yesterday, putting gravel into new barn (see http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=projects&Number=60800&page=1&view=expanded&sb=5&vc=1#Post60800 ) trying not to hit the posts only to punch a hole into a some wafer brd. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif on the "inside" ,thank god, of the barn. Along with some odd assorted fence posts, trees, garage corners etc.

You're kidding? No? wow.
Me ... I'm way too experienced to not remember how much the FEL extends out the front of the tractor.
Now my lawn tractor ... on the other hand ... well, there a serious scratch on the side of the pickup ... the trim on the pole barn/garage door is pretty twisted and bent ... the fence shows a few too many scrapes, 3 of the 4 downspouts need to be replaced ... gotta get rid of that 4th gear!!!
Oops ... just remembered I broke the hood of my old snowmobile with the FEL ... uhmmm ... scraped some paint off the big trailer ... ripped the lights off the motorcycle trailer ... banged up the corral ... hit the barn door ... nope ... no problems with where my FEL is at all!

I've been watching this thread (sad and funny) and I think it's safe to say that, at one time or another we all have altered something with the FEL. As an off-topic question: What's the most expensive (repaired) item that has jumped out in front of your FEL?
So far I have been lucky. I only ripped my mailbox out. $20
(Excuse: It was buried in snow and I thought it was over there and ....)

Dave, my most expensive was those two mailboxes, you know the cast iron type that are square and spendy (169+tax). When I rolled that tractor down the drive backwards, I always turned it to the uphill side, and the mailbox was on the downhill side, that stupid FEL just couldn't learn to miss that box! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif I think it is related to this keyboard, it don't do what I want either! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif

Uh, I forgot to mention something. Probably the worst thing that I did was to the tractor itself. You know in the manual for the loader it says to "always take it off on solid, level area" like concrete. Well I don't need to do that. So in the midst of wrestling with the loader on soft ground (I did put plywood under the stands) the cross brace put a nice impression of itself right across the middle of the hood! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif then /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif Just about that time the wife (aka the Boss) comes home with a new cat. /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif /w3tcompact/icons/mad.gif What the........

Honestly, never hit anything with a front loader.

Now, that being said, I don't want to talk about the number of times I've managed to take out some serious fencing with a bush hog hooked onto the back of the tractor. Oh yeah, and when I hit the oak tree with the bush hog while backing up - didn't hurt the oak tree, but cost about $80 to repair the bush hog.

But never hit anything with a front loader.

I ripped off a little piece of the garage door entrance when backing in; FEL was just a little too close.

Chewed up a bit of my wood mail box post with my front mount snowblower.

Was mowing a few weeks ago along the edge of the yard - 60' or so from the house - MMM picked up a
U shaped piece of metal in the weeds - winged it through a first floor screen window and left a nice
mark on an interior closet door. Luckily nobody was in the house.

Hi All,
Second season on my 2710.. Well lets see, --- There was the stairs of the small barn; ripped them off
in a blink of an eye.( the bottom stair was under 18" of snow) ---Took a big chunk out of the big barn door.
--- And my best one to date:,(drum roll please), The tractor was stationary in the barn, not in gear. It was running while I was tweeking with the FEL control stick. I was slowly working the hydraulics to
check the angle of the bucket. Pulled back on the control stick while I was looking down at the tractor,
raised the FEL way up and tore all the overhead shelving off the wall. Using gravity to my advantage,
I brought all the stuff that was on the shelves DOWN onto the tractor hood.. YEA! havin fun now!!!

Avoiding the newly seeded lawn (aka dirt)...I cut between the shed and last years Xmas tree (live) to get back to the driveway. Concentrating on avoiding the tree - I scraped and gouged the side of the shed with FEL. Realizing the error of my ways I backed up and hit the camper with the box blade. She still doesn't know about the camper.
