The Kubota has to have a over running clutch to be able to stop the tractor without a brush hog pushing the tractor. There is only one clutch, it operates both the drive train and the PTO. The Massey has a two clutches. If you push down about half way on th clutch pedal, the drive train is disengaged. If you push the clutch down all the way, the PTO is disengaged. You need to be able to disengage the drive clutch by it's self when brush hogging, so that you can chop up cuttings when it plugs and stop the tractor without the BH pushing it. You can't do that with the Kubota without the over riding clutch.

All Kubota's have over running clutches, I think all new tractors would in the US. If not they would be a lawsuit waiting to happen.

The 2800 hydro lets you stop with the hog running due to the hydro. The gear model I don't think can do this, it only has a single stage clutch. The 3400 has teh dual stage clutch on the gear model.

Thanks again for the info, Gents. CjR, Kioti is well over two hours from me, no traffic, breaking all speed laws. I just don't want to feel stranded. JG thanks for the clutch tip, as I was expecting. Sooooo, I'll throw the L2800 out and bring back in the TC30.

Let's see TC30 gear has 1.6/3.2 more hp eng/PTO. but the dealer is 1/2 hour farther away. Cool old guy runs the MF shop, he's closer, but less power. Wife's opinion...red matches the barn....

How much will I notice 3hp PTO??

I won't get in an argument with you, but you need to do some research.

I don't know all the other manufacturers, but a new Kubota would have an overrunning clutch. I am like 99% certain of that.

The grey market stuff wouldn't have that stuff I know.

Can you think of a model that doesn't? Many have a pto brake too so if the tractor has teh pto off you can't go up and overrun the shaft by hand.

Many manufacturers no longer state their machines have this feature, it is almost understood.

Some do, some don't. I know that ever once in while, it is discussed here. Besides, I wouldn't want a internal one, like some have. There is to much work and expense to replace it. I did have a list, but my computer blowed up and I have been using my wifes lately. The reason that I said something wasn't because it was a Kubota in question, but because all engulfing statements are dangerous. I wouldn't even buy a MF with an internal one and I wouldn't have a direct PTO tractor either.

I looked at all of these tractors before buying the MF 1428V. For me the TC30 was priced out of the universe. I also just liked the MF more. I bought it last summer - it's been great and has handled everything I've asked it to do.

Frankly, you'll be happy with any of the tractors you listed. I also think that the dealer should be a big part of the decision.

Have you checked into Mahindra tractors there is a dealer in Ramona California. Where in Southern California are you located? David.

You guys are funny on the overrunning clutch stuff...I had a 1980s Kubota and it had an internal overrunning clutch, my dealer (6 locations all Kubota) said it was US law to have an overrunning clutch from back in the 80s. Anyhow, I thought the L2800 in question was HST? where did all this clutch talk come from?

This is true you cannot buy a "transmission driven PTO" tractor anymore without an internal overrunning clutch or some way to stop it from pushing the tractor. It has been this way since the 80's at least. I have yet to see an internal ORC ever need replaced in the subcompacts. If you break this more than likely you will break something else in the PTO driveline anyway.
