Eddie, I'm constantly amazed at how fat and healthy your hogs look. That smaller pig is so fat it looks like it belongs on a farm instead of being feral. They just don't have a rough look as I would expect. Are you sure you don't have a trough hidden somewhere? Are you feeding those hogs without telling us? ;) :D

Hi Jim,

While I've never seen a fat wild hog, the ones that I have seen and hunted in both Texas and California have been very healthy. Their isn't much fat on them, but there's no doubt that they are very good at finding food and living off of the land.

I took out some hogs last night!

Shot three hogs with two shots again! I was watching a doe deer eating blackberries about two hundred yards out in the open when suddenly she shot her head up and looked over to the right. She startled and bolted into the woods and about five seconds later two very large sows and about 25+ piglets came trotting out into the open. I put the cross hairs of my scope on the lead sows shoulder and shot her, she dropped dead in her tracks at about 125-135 yards out. I started walking towards her and the other large sow came over to the one that was dead and was standing there. I didn't want to shoot both of them so I shouted a couple of times and scared her off with most of the piglets. However about five piglets stood standing around the dead sow so I shot a nice eating size one in the shoulder, the bullet instantly killed it and went through that piglet into the head of a piglet standing behind that one, they both dropped dead. Three hogs with two shots again!!! I buried the sow with the backhoe and am butchering the two piglets for a Fourth of July BBQ!

there's nothing wrong with shooting the hogs but.... why not dress out the sow?

Three with two shots is pretty cool!!! Congrats. I've thought about trying to get two with one shot, but then get worried that they will wonder off before I can get the shot and I'll end up with nothing.

This particular group that we're watching is still coming around every morning. None of them are very big, but a few of them are ideal eating size. 40 to 60 pounds is just about perfect!!!

I told Steph that she should shoot one Saturday morning for the 4th and we'll grill it up for the party we're having. I have some meat from the one I shot today, but it's always better when she shoots them.

I only killed three of them, the other 35 or so got away. This is a hog eradication project on a wildlife refuge with a conservation easement over it. I normally dress out everything up to 250 pounds but have found that over 300 pounds on up the meat is not that good for all the work. The two groups I usually give away the hogs to, the Lions Club and the Sheriff Boys Ranch were both too busy when I called them late Saturday night to come get the sow as everyone was going to church on Sunday. Too bad I can never pick a time to harvest a hog, they show up whenever they want to and it does not always fit my schedule.

I did dress out the piglets whole and have them ready for the BBQ.

Plenty more where they came from........
