Holster for tractor and other work

I would carry on me and have additional ammo at the tractor somewhere.

And that reminds me of an old joke if you don't mind:

TASS reports: seven Chinese tanks attacked peacefully plowing soviet tractor. The tractor retaliated, destroyed five tanks, than took off and flew back to the Agriculture Cooperative Farm.:D

The problem with a Tractor Holster is that the weapon is on the tractor and not on you.

I have never had a problem with dirt when carrying a pistol. I have done quite a bit of work carrying including mowing, box blading, using the back hoe, chainsawing and splitting wood. I just keep the pistol covered up by a shirt. The holsters I have used over the years have NOT been covered at the top either. Most of the dirt is going to just sit on the top of the pistol. Pretty easy to wipe off at the end of the day. The pistol gets fired at least once a year and then cleaned. The pistols I have carried can take quite a bit of dirt before they have function problems. I have never had a problem with them. I have put up to 400-500 rounds of dirty ammo in a day and not had a problem.

Later,
Dan

Yeah Dan we are on the same page that's pretty much what I said also. I just miss read his post and thought he was wanting a holster to carry a pistol on the tractor my bad its one of those days all day.

I carry a Glock 30 in a Don Hume ot721 belt slide to answer the OP question (now I re-read it) and have never had any trouble other than keeping my shirt low enough to cover it when the dirt is flying and the wind is blowing. I carry it when I am hired out also and am even more careful.

On the other hand I don't recommend knowingly shooting any firearm that has been exposed to very much dirt unless its do or die ymmv.

But you have a glock

You must see the glock torture test here:

Glock 21 Torture Test - Theprepared.com

where a guy abuses his Glock 21 45acp by

burying it in dirt, snow, salt, baby powder, sand

shooting it with a 22 cal

wrapping it in a salt water rag

driving over it

dragging it behind a car

and dropping it from an airplane among other things

and he did not clean it in between (other than a dust off or a slight fix was needed) and it still functioned.

LOL Oh I know yooper I love Glocks for all those reasons and Dan probably has one too for all I know and even the OP?

I just don't knowingly abuse my perfectly good weapons even though if I needed to they wouldn't complain.

(sorry for such a long post!)

Now my wife on the other hand found out Glock frames can be damaged......she cleans houses and offices or a living and had her G26 in the bottom of her cleaning bag and by chance a bottle of drain cleaner opened up (acid) and the pistol sat in it for several hours maybe even overnight we don't know or sure.

Anyway she sheepishly showed it to me and I was just flabbergasted it had taken the finish off the nite sights down to bare metal and started discoloring the slide and the frame was just melted and soft the gun however still functioned perfectly as expected. I sent it to Glock in Smyrna GA and they refinished it put new sights on and replaced the frame all for $120 that's good service I love Glock is all I can say!

My daily carry is a G30 but I too would not like to do what that guy did.

Keep my 1956 H&R 922 in an Uncle Mikes #9 nylon holster. 6" barrel and 9 rounds of .22 shorts keeps the racoons away while I mow and work around my little getaway.

When I'm out bushogging in the boonies I like to keep my S&W 17, .22LR revolver with some shot cartridges in it and some standard ammo in my pocket. I just have a cheap nylon holster for it and strap it up under the steering column with a rubber bungee cord nice & tight. Sure it gets nice & dirty but cleans up easily and would be handy if a snake tried to climb aboard. When I lived in Florida I got some bushogging jobs that were a little scary - grass taller than the hood and ponds and canals with all kinds of nasty snakes and wild hogs etc. I realize those shot cartridges would have just p.ssed a hog off unless I got a good close shot in the eye or something but it still made me feel a little more confident. Never had to pull the gun out.

Around here, if you are not carrying a gun, you are not from around here.

I carry one of the small new Ruger 380s on my side in a camera case.
It is completely covered from all the elements including brush and dust.
Yet it is still easy to get to.

My wife likes to carry her pistol in a holster so everyone knows she has a weapon.

We see maybe 2 cars all day during the week and 20-25 on weekends.

Rarely does anyone come up the driveway.

We see plenty of folks just coming up the loop driveway, always looking??? They kick in back doors if your not visable.....Had one senior neighbor cutting his grass, Beat to death by a mixed couple looking for Crack money...Yeah, I carry while mowing or tractoring. Signs don't stop these fiends. You say no Crack in your area, Better look again. Jy.
