Holy Crap!! No trailer brakes.....

There is no feeling like having your truck trailer sled you right up to a stop light. Push force seems to equal pucker power on pulling to the seat. I had lost the plug several bumps back, what a e-ticket ride?

Back when I was running the big rigs we referred to that as "skid marks in your shorts"

gotta love 'white knuckle' events and brown alerts.

I remember driving thru a town one icy morning hauling a tractor home from an out of state purchase, and traffic was flowing pretty briskly, when a car 2 vehicles ahead of me decided to turn left from the thru lane, leting it get broadsided and bounced back into the right lane, thus prompting the truck behind it, and in front of me to rear end it as he was following too close. i had 3 car lengths of room.. but knew it wouldn't be enough for a dead stop. the right side of the road had parallel parking up till a few car lengths of the intersection, then it went to a painted off non curbed area.. just wide enough for me to squeeze thru during a panic/controlled stop as I entered the intersection. I think I had about 3" clearance from the guys truck and wrecked car on my left, and from the signal pole on my right. my 'co pilot' was shouting right of way conditions and spacings as we went thru... white knuckle and heart pumping. needless to say we didn't need coffee for about an hour to stay awake! :)

archerynut:

I had a Tekonsha P-3 installed on our 1500 GMC - easily adjustable.

"Didn't know the Toyota was geared so low. Standard gears, or optional? Bet your Chevy wasn't geared as low (likely couldn't get a 1500 geared that low anyhow)."

The 4.30 gears are standard with the 5.7 and the tow package. My old Silverado 1500 had 3.73 gears with a 4 speed auto and the 5.3 liter V-8. The Tundra has 100hp, a little over 100fp of torque, 2 more gears, and a lower rear end ratio than my old Chevy. My Dodge 2500 had a 4 speed auto with 3.73 gears and it had 325 hp and 610 foot pounds of torque.

I have a 2010 Tundra and I love it. I need to get trailer brake controller, any recommendations?

Tekonsha Prodigy. With the proper pigtail, it's easy plug and play.

Good controller. No problems with my '08 Tundra. Make sure you press the tow button to get first gear without having to nail the throttle at a stop.
