Home Brew Bucket Level?

That would most likely be because it doesn't matter what the angle of the boom is in relation to the body of the machine as much as it matters what the angle of the boom is in relation to the ground. Gravity being what it is acts in relation to the ground not in a relation to the body of machine.

Although I was being a little silly, I think something to help indicate the bucket is level vs square to the tractor might be helpful. Especially when using pallet forks.

I don't have any type of indicator and haven't had any problems, but something like that might be useful.

Wouldn't that only be accurate on level ground?

It's always accurate relative to the horizon. Especially for that type of equipment, that is most important (for capacity at reach/angle).

How can you see the horizon on a hill, or in the woods, down in a hole, etc?

Put your cell phone or android tablet on bucket and use angle/level indicator app (but hard to see from seat).... But if you really need to see where pallet forks are in relationship to what you are picking up would be camera on bucket and display on dash (backup camera facing forward)...

How about on bucket instead of boom...

The bucket level indicator on my backhoe has a tab on the rod and an adjustable tab in a slot. You set the tabs so they are aligned when the bucket is flat on the ground. The linkage going under the cab controls the hydraulic self leveling system.

My compact telehandler uses a gravity pointer for boom angle also:
But does it indicate when bucket (or forks) are parallel to ground?

Dale

No, it just indicates boom angle relative to the center of the earth.

I use the top of the bucket to know what angle the bottom is at:

And can see the bottom of the forks from the seat:
