Home Depot is getting worse

I tried on several ocassions at HD in Manchester CT. THe few times there, one can wait until the cows come home and still no one around to offer any help. I went across the street to Lowe's. Help immediatley, and given a commercial account, after a few minute phone call. I go there on days and rare weekends, always someone front and center offering help. So, how does one figure it?

Alot of it must stem from who gets hired to work in the stores. Closest Lowe's and HD to us is in Waldorf, Md. They both are getting worse by the day. Hard to find what you need and cashiers are few and far between also. No self pay lines yet. Why do quite a few retail establishments set up umpteen checkout lines but only pay 1 or 3 cashiers to work them????

Well I finally went into the new HD in these parts and actually spent money there even though I vowed not to. I always shop at a local 2 store family owned hardware store. Great service etc as other posters point out. I needed gutter guards. The family store did not have them.
So I go across the street (Yes the town allowed a HD to go in across the street from a family owned business that has been around for more than 40 years - go figure!).

Look at the pretty JD lawn tractors for a good 20 minutes. Nobody asks if I need help.

Find the gutter aisle and get the required amount of guard. Remember that I want to make a sliding door for the back of the barn/garage and will need the hardware. Track down an associate.

In detail describe what I want to do - 8 x10 ft exterior door. Need hanging hardware to make a sliding door. He directs me with precise directions. I go there and find myself looking at sliding closet doors /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Walk over one aisle and wait while 3 associates finish chatting. One is finally forced to make eye contact and he asks me for help. Give him the same detailed explanation. finishing up with "I don't want a closet door" He smiles and walks me back over to the closet door display. ARRGH!. Then he tries to sneak back to his buddies real fast. But I am a little amused with this whole process. So I say "excuse me" which brings him back. "Perhaps I didn't make myself clear. Did I mention this is to be a barn door?" Yes he replies. "Did I mention this is to house a small tractor?" Again he replies yes. "And did I say it was for an exterior application and I did not want a closet door?" "OH" he says " we don't have those" and zip he is back over with his buddies.

Well I did buy the gutter guards but I won't be going back to HD anytime soon.
