Home Depot Service Trailer???

I would think that an enclosed trailer set up with racks/boxes etc. to fit the exact need would be a better option. I find compartments restrictive due to size limitations. Also, one door to lock instead of many small ones. That's my two cents.

Especially with that small axle on the one in the link. We have two enclosed service body trucks with 8 outside-accessible boxes, and covered centers. Would be hard to trade for open centers after we've done these since the late 70's. It is a good idea though, but as mentioned would be better with a 5 or 6k axle or at least a tandem 3k.

I do like the slide in truck body, where everything can be put in or out by forklift or the jacks.

Thanks all for your thoughts.
I m just a retired one man Handyman business and I get tired of "running back to my house" because I forgot a tool.
I d like to have every tool I own with me on my small jobs.

I find it hard to spend $5600 on a "Home Depot" box trailer. If it cost $1000 I buy it in a heartbeat tho......
I have found two used but each looks like a train ran into them.....

Well you could always find a worn out utility truck and cut the frame behind the cab and weld a tongue on it. Seen that done with trucks of all sizes and makes.
However a small cargo trailer is probably the easier and less hokey way to go....

I built one several years back and can't do with out it now. I started with a phone co. box cut 18in out down the center so that is the width of my truck . I cut the floor out as the frame is above the side boxes. Then welded a frame out of 2x3 sq tubing and a dexter axel with surge disc brakes. The advantage of the phone co. box is that it has slide out trays on one side and divided bins on the other doors. I built a cart that just fits the back part that holds the most used tools with a ramp for the back door. One sliding bar on each side locks all of the doors. I will try to find Pictures and post them

I bought a used utility box for 25 or 50 bucks at an auction a couple of years ago. Wouldn't take much to build a frame and order an axle and finish it off. Just a thought, as I bet you could find a bed cheap enough and maybe even a trailer that would fit. There is a 'body and chassis' common frame width (34"?) and then whatever a pick up frame width is.
