I agree that windows are an energy hog, but you gotta have them. As far as the insulation goes, get in an old house that has none and you can tell the difference real quick,

John,
You are right. the old family farm that I bought 4 years ago had virtually no insulation. I have cut the propane bill from $1,550 to $650.00 last winter by adding insulation in the attic, basement and even pulling out some inside walls, insulating, rewiring and re-rocking. And consider where the price of propane has gone in 4 years, I have not figured it out, but have probably cut my volume of propane used by 70% or so.
And this fall I am putting in a high effeciency furnace and central air with all new ductwork. The furnace that is in the house was third handed, had been gotten rid of by 2 previous owners for burning too much propane.

Who knows I might be down to 400.00 or so this winter /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Slow,
That's not an unreasonable expectation for the new furnace. We had one replaced with a high efficiency unit at an old house we had in Floriad and it cut the bill almost in half. They have really come a long way, the thing we had pulsed somehow and really stretched the gas.
