Home made gage wheels for LP landscape rake

What do you mean by centered hubs?

On these wheels one side of the hub is extended and the other is not. I had to make a spacer for each wheel on my lathe to even things out so the wheel would be centered between the wheel forks.

But for $16.95 per pair + shipping you still can't go wrong. These wheels are the right size, well made and are nice.

You did yourself proud. Great looking set of wheels. My only comment or suggestion is to move them inboard about 6". This will allow you to take tighter corners with only the outer edge of the rake being a concern. With the wheels at the outer edge, they protrude further when making turns. This can be a problem when you are working around trees, stumps, or rocks. I learned this lesson the hard way when I got hung up last summer.
Are you taking wheel orders yet?????? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Being a little lazy as I am and unfortunately not having access to a lathe I was looking for centered hubs like on a wheelbarrow. Apparently you have offset hubs, that's why you needed to make a spacer. That is a really good price on the wheels though. But I guess I'll have to keep looking. I think I can get wheelbarrow wheels at Walmart or Home Depot for around $20 each.

Barnboy, Good job /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif and I must give thanks to Madreferee for hooking me up with my spindles. I'm still messing around with the top link adjustment to get the angle just right. In your 1st picture is that the angle to normally rock rake with /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif.

FYI Harbor Freight has some wheels right now for $5.99 ea
I was thinking of getting some to make gage wheels myself.
Three questions;
Why so far back?
Why is it better to go above or below the tine shaft?
Why if the landscape rake is nearly useless without gage wheels don't the manufacturers sell them with them already?

Good luck with your wheel project. As for how far back to set the wheels I just made a guess from looking at the factory wheels in the owners manual. I'll post a picture with some dimensions. To have the arm above or below I think that may be manufacture specific. The original LP wheels bolted on just like mine. As far as a rake being worthless without wheels. Well maybe I shoulnt have sais it that way. It just didnt level dirt or rock very good for me. Could be the operator. In this attached picture the wheel is in position as if I were backing up. I tried to leave enough room between the wheel and the tines to keep clods form hanging up.

So cool and well done. Thanks for the close up pic's.
They bring to mind a question;
Does the grease zerk go all the way through the brass liner or is there a recessed area for grease to sit?

I also have the Landpride Landscape Rake and I could never get it to work for me. Guess it was the operator factor, but I broke down and spent the $300 plus for the wheels and now the rake is pretty **** handy. In looking at your pics, your wheels are so close to the ones from Landpride that I want to cry over my wasted money. Should have taken your path and saved a bunch.
Great Job, and the measurments look right on. You'll really be pleased with the rake now.
